I havent heard of anyone making their own grinder, and personally I wouldnt try it unless you have skills in that area. I bought my grinder for 10 bucks at a smoke shop for tobacco. They dont have to be expensive. I have heard about people using coffee bean grinders for their nugget, but I've heard that method is best for when making brownies.
I find it more fun to break apart my nugget, but I tend to do things the more difficult way.

I thought about making one on my CNC mill, but the time to cut stock and runn a code would take longer than my job pays by the hr and I can more cheaply go buy one. But I thought mabey a giant one powered by a small gasoline engine. hmmm
As Amd states its not a trivial task, even for a CNC. But with careful design work it can be done fairly simply. The CNC programing is the easy part. The engineering, is the tricky part.
But, grinding isn't the greatest thing to do. Break up your bud just prior to smoking. Can't be *that* much work. Hell, I grind my coffee at 4 cups worth at a time. I like the freshness.
(now trimming a harvested plant(s)/buds is a different story)
