How are indoor growers exposed?

I've been goggling stories on how some home growers are being arrested. In last story I read, the police used a whole bunch of resources to raided a guys house who only had 7 plants... That got me thinking.. How are people who get caught growing indoors at home usually caught? Is it exclusively because some one snitched on them, or do police have other methods?

Your electric bill. Also, if you default on student loans and don't pay them they will garnish your wages and see recent purchases at your local hydro store and shit so use cash.

Prob 90% of the time it was there own mouth that got them busted. Other times prob smell, or just bad luck.

also a steady jump in electric use that occurs on a 18/6 or 12/12 basis is all they really need to observe

getting rid of exif data on pictures posted on here or other places.

If not they can look up almost the exact house you took the picture from.

Easy way to catch and be caught.

My only input on the electricity is that it's almost like a credit card. They don't give 2 shits on how much you spend/use as long as they get theirs. You can use up electricity from here to kingdom come as long as you pay it.

In addition to the above, they also get quite suspicious light leaks from where people do not use proper ventilation and hook it to their furnace/fireplace exhaust vents.. and beams of light shine into the sky... which is why it's good to run lights at day, and night close to actual night if at all possible.. that said - FLIR.. the spawn of satan, although it doesn't stand alone.. if there's enough other evidence to suggest it, it may be allowed in some courts. Long story short, massive heat signatures showing up in 1 particular part of your house as read w/said FLIR.. either from the ground, the air with police heli, or both. Couple that with you being way too talkative, you lapsing on 1 bill or more, or anything that tends to draw attention to your operation is sending you on a crash course with the jail cell... unless you're in a state where it is both legal for medicinal and receational, and it's decriminalized. I do not have much information on that, but believe Colorado has such a setup. Control your odor as well! Any violent strain to the nostrils will waft miles on a light breeze day - you do not want such a thing leading to your place if they use a triangulation method with dogs. If they're to this point.. there's already been complaints, and I wish you tons of luck anyway. ONA DIY w/pre-filter, and ozone generator will go a long way to controlling that issue.

Electricity usage is not probable cause in and of itself. A normal space heater runs 1000w; if electric usage was probable cause, we'd have a ton of raids here every winter. You'd need to do something just to get the cops looking at your power use to start with.

Agreed, a new 7500w jump will definitely get their attention as they will contact you and offer you a business power rate... hahaha (Which could be for the better..) you're self-employed, work out of the house, and have set up a new workshop in your basement.. multiple grinders/machines @30A/each will definitely help fit the footprint and not look so out of place.

absolutely they would already have a reason for looking in the first place, and the only point was on a steady useage as stated would just help to confirm, and is not probable cause just a helpful comfirmation

Can someone please explain how FLIR can detect my 75 degree grow room when my skin is at 93 degree constantly?
Its not the actual temp per say of grow room, but the difference in temp between that room and the others in the house.
As for the power, it is all computor monitored. If the comp picks up a massive increase in power then its flagged and sent to service to schedule a check to see if there is a problem with meter etc. at flagged location.
