how much damage will A LITTLE frost do to plants 3-4 weeks old?

well i am in MI and we got a frost freeze warning here lastnight ,, i forgot my lil 10 day old babies outside all 13 of them & this morning when i looked at them about 10AM , the sun was shinging right on them & they looked unharmed ,,, ,, so my guess is is u have a frost at night , as long as the sun hits them nice & early they should be ok ,, remember mine are only 10 days old & it got to 32 degreez F lastnight ,.....

Yes we are having some cray weather patterns here in Canada also Mandy.
A couple of weeks ago we were getting temps in the high 70's and my best gurlfriend got snowed in and it was minus 22
I couldn't believe it.

i havn't had the same luck. I'm using seed stock accimilated to MI climate, but 30 out of 40 of mine were wiped out by the three days of cold temps. And these plants had been under a mh bulb for a month. Even after three days of hardening off in full sun they still died, probably due to frost.

yeah its not the temps that kill them but the frost itself.
If you even cover them for the night they would have survived.

okay i just woke up to frost on my plants! THIS IS BULLSHIT I WAS JUST GOING TO RIG SOMETHING UP. But I will tell you now that the sun is back out and the frost is gone....all my tricomes were frozen little balls....you could see it!! I'm not biology expert but I know this can't be a good thing....time to come out even as premature as it is....better safe then sorry if ya've only got one I guess!

hey Sjerpsy, that sucks about the cold weather soo early in september. But yeah its better to be safe than sorry. what did the temp drop down to? and let us know if theres any damage done to the budz. tonight the temps are supposed to drop to -1 C and i'm debating on whether or not to pick tonight. I have not been to the grow site since june and have no idea if their ready or if their still there, i guess my question is will a low of -1 kill the plants? should i pick tonight regardless of the ripeness?

it was a pretty light frost but I could definitly see the frozen spots.It Didn't seem to do anything to the plant as it is,in my mind, healthy enough to handle it.I had another that is JUST budding and I CAN SEE THE PURPLE.I'm not exactly sure but I know that I've seen frineds crops that were left in some frost and all the buds turned purple...it actually makes it LOOK real good....as for the smoke I'm not so sure...I'm go take a couple pics...

okay,evetyhting looks fine on the plant that is doing well....i cannont see any difference...however its not the same deal for the other...I got one real good pic of the main bud..if you save the pic and zoom in with windows or whatever,you can see where the pistils already turned from the white milky colour they were too a dark purple...again i dunno how bad this is but I guess we'll see...heres some pics...the last two are the ones that show the purple if you look close at the bud...stalk was always kinda purple but is now MORE so...first three are of hte good one.

nice work man, i hope the weather warms up for your plants. yeah its kinda cool how the plants can turn purple like that, i ended up going and picking my plants and there was one plant that turned totally purple, their now saying its supposed to drop to -3C tonight. here's a couple pics of what i had to pick, nepalese grizzly strain. you can kinda tell its been through some cold ass nights.

i dont think thats true. when a plant is hit by a frost, all the liquid in the leaves freeze. if you let the sun hit them while the leaves are still frozen, it will most likely kill the plant or at least some of the leaves. its due to the molecules in the liquid (mostly water) expanding, causing the leaves to stay a dark green color and wilted, and eventually die. what your supposed to do after a frost, is spray your plants with cold water before the sun hits them. it pretty much just washes the frost right off, and makes a smoother transition form freezing teperatures, to warmer temperatures. its sort of like when you get frost bite on your hands or feet...your not supposed to go and dunk them in warm or hot water. so dont let the sun hit your plants right after a frost. hope this helps.

if your plants are few days or even a week away from harvest, i wouldnt worry about it. im in vt, and we are supposed to get another frost tonight.

Interesting Underground! I'm a little hazy right now but I can get what your saying and see how it would help the transition.Looking at my platns every day is teahcing me a lot and it really makes sense to me.My plants are a ways from harvest but they WILL have to be early, just how early is what I'm tryin to prolong...avoiding the inevinable...thanks for the comment tho...
