I have 20 plants in beer pong sized dixie cups... they look pretty healthy but how big can they really get?

I have 3 65 watt 2300K CFLS and 6 23 watt 55000-6500K CFLS, use miracle grow soil, spring water from walmart with some miracle grow fertalizer every 3-4 waterings, about once a week... learning as I go....

any suggestions or comments appreciated...

here are some pics

i should mention, i do keep the lights inches away, i took this pics while i was doing some lower leaf trimming...

Im bored so heres the wholse story:

As I said, I am learning as I go... I threw some random seeds into some flower pots i have at my place... and they sprouted right up... but were stringy and unhealthy. I then bought the miracle grow soil and some mini peat moss cups, and planted about 30 seeds, but had no idea what I was doing. When I started poking around the internet (mostly youtube and this site) I realized how sophisticated of a science it can be. I realized the few hours of sunlight in front of my slider were certainly not enough to grow indoors, so I went and come some lights. Still not knowing what I was doing, I then went to walmart and got two of the GE plant and aquarium lights, thinking this would cut it. At this point I had about 20 seedlings popping out of the 6 oz peat moss cups. Doing more research, I realized that its all a waste of time unless I invested in some decent lighting. I didnt wanna get too crazy (yet), so I the biggest CFLs I could get from Lowes (At this point I also understood about the light temperature). I also realized around this time that I was horribly overwatering them and poisoning them with the city tap water.

I started buying gallons of spring water, did some adjustments to bring the lights closer, and started watering every few days, and they have exploded (at least for my standards...) over the past few weeks.

There are three that I have marked that are from great seeds, the rest are randoms...

Here are some questions:

I picked up some ionizers from home... do they do anything except negate odor? do they make the plants healthier somehow?

The reason for me finally posting is that I want to know: has anyone grown to harvest in beer pong cups? do I have to transfer? space is an issue, so I might have to make a few cuts from the team. I figured that maybe once they sex and the males are gone maybe there will be enough room to upgrade pot size... is this too late?

As I mentioned, my technique has been evolving... So there are sort of epochs with my batch... there are the ones that I threw into the flower pots, ones that sprouted in the little peat moss cups, ones that I germinated and planted in the peat moss cups and have had a decent life of lighting. There are ones that were seedlings in peat moss and transfered to beer pongs and ones that have lived only in the beer pong cups... Anyways, yesterday I pulled two males!! and see that five are female!! They are on 18/6 lighting... why are they sexing? Is it because they are so old? The oldest are now two months old...

here are some pics of the process... also, I know now that tin foil is bad... like I said, my technique is evolving!!

dude they look nice, but aleast a 1gal pot will do if your keeping them small, going in to flower.do you have a ph tester better get one. and some ph up and down from the store, should adjust the ph to 6.0 before watering/feeding.do you have a hydro store a round if not order online some dirt, fox farm is good, or happy frog i use both. its better than M.G.soil. but if thats what you have then use it.

well you asked, so.

most new growers do best with 1 gallion per foot of plant.

but, you can go smaller. you will just need to give it less water more times a day.

this is a 12/12 from seed grow.
1 gallion pot for 52" plant.

she was 42.8 grams dry weight.

she has about 1-1/2 weeks left.

What are your expectations? If you want big bushes transplant to a bigger pot.

If you want a bunch of smaller plants that will basically end up being one big cola per plant stay with the cups.

How you grow should be based on what you expect the end results to be.

This was grown in a 32 ounce bucket. Imagine 20 0r 30 of these.

thanks for the advice everyone. i figure i have enough room to move four or five into big pots - is it ok to wait until they are sexed to transplant? i dont wanna waste one on a male... although i guess i could do a switch out if one of the big pots does turn out to be male.

these all are in 12 inch pots about 1.5 gal pots in a 4x4 area.kept smaller could put more in there and yield alittle more. But that grow is going now. I have 18 in a 3x5x4ft area, they are going to flower this week after cloning .

omfg, that is a huge bud. Never seen one that big. Who's grow was that?
I want to read that journal if whoever grew it is on RIU.

and to the OP, unless you plan on flowering them right away, you need
to transplant to bigger pots. If I were to grow in those cups, I would put
them straight into flower and get one main cola.

If you want a regular plant with more than one main cola, transplant
to a bigger pot. The general rule is 1 gallon per 1 foot of plant height.

So for example, if you plan on growing a 2 ft plant, you need a 2 gallon
pot.

I grew it. It was grown in a 32oz paint bucket 12/12 from seed. No grow journal. Check out randy rockets 12/12 from seed thread. I posted some pics as they progressed in there and he has some similiar results.
