Hello everyone. I've been doing this for years and I've read tons of information.

What are you guys doing to get 1 gram per watt? Now I'm not talking that big drawn out equation of all watts used in total grow.

I mean like 1000 grams from a 1000 watt light. Or 400 grams from a 400 watt light. And so on and so on.

Is it possible without C02?

I know this topic has been brought up before, but with new members joining daily and methods changing almost as often, I feel like the dreaded task is easier to accomplish than it was 5 years ago.

I personally hover around the .75-.90 per watt range. I'm not complaining but just want to see how the Pros are pulling it off. I don't want to add Co2 but will if I have to.

So if your hitting that 1 gram per watt let's hear it. Just want to have a good informed discussion with positive information for everyone to feed off.

Current set up is-

Two 1000 watt hps digital ballasts and hortilux bulbs

pro mix

advanced nutrients

non sealed room

vented magnum xxxl hoods

Humidity under 50%

Temp under 80

veg for minimum of 6 weeks

7 gallon pots

12 plants under 2 1000s (I'm in michigan and have to stay at 12 or less)

.75 is pretty good with 1kw, 1gpw is fucking bad ass with 1kw..

600's or DE's would bump your weight over 1kw SE's asuming equal draw from the wall, id experiment with other cuts too

Tried a few different strains. I used to grow multiple strains but that became a pain. Now i run 1 strain at a time. I'm currently running Sour Diesel.

Well co2 is a game changer.
You also have to think about exactly HOW people weigh in their harvest.
Some people cut, trim and dry entire colas. Then weigh those. They claim they had a banging harvest. After everything is said and done it's far less due to stem weight.
I personally don't weigh in until everything's cut down to individual nuggets and at a stable cure range.
My buds can go strait into the grinder and right into the paper or pipe. No breaking it apart or anything like that. I'm not smoking stems so there's no use having em there.
And some people are just bullshitters. I was in a legal state a while back and talking with a grower. Guy claimed he pulled a lb out of his (little) tent with a 400 watter.

I ran 9 diff strains last time with 16 plants and pulled out just under a gpw. Partner ran the same system ended up about 1.5gpw over 14 gavitas. Co² + silica + 70-73° day 60-63° night + 35% humidity + knowing your plants+ even canopy = 1+gpw. That and running very few strains. Mix bags always mess shit up everything eats different or on different days they all don't stay same height canopy management is a bitch

Interesting thread. Im new to indoor kinda (last time i grew indoor the internet didnt exist..lol)

How they are grown would help surely? Id imagine Vertical would produce more?

Q. Do certain lights help to produce more? For eg would a COB reliably produce more than HID?

The technology is there and its coming but gavitas are here they are hot but pull mad weight. LEDs are right around the corner from something better. Like right there by the end of the year or Beginning of next year game will change to LED and gavitas only

Genetics are important in the sense that some clones may have "ruined" by their predecessors stressors and that "not all seeds are created equal. For example, you can receive a substandard/"bunk" OG clone that does not grow/yield on par with the rest of it's known "kin". Another example would be keeping the "offspring" (clones) from a seed that was less than exemplary, where better performers of the same genealogy are available.


The majority of the strains available are capable of 1gpw if you're working with quality stock. The heavier yielders are capable of 1.7 or more. I once grew a strain that would have been capable of 2.25-2.5, but it was undesirable for two reasons. All of the colas were so dense and massive that most had botrytis developing within. That, and the "nose" was so off putting (to me) that I never even smoked it (it smelled like burnt brakes).


Key elements are environment, nutrient regimen (however you go about it), genetics, and overall plant health. You want that plant in tip top shape going into bloom. An analogy I've shared with some grow buddies that were "failing" in veg; "you don't take a malnourished teen from a third world country, give him a sandwich, then enter him in Olympic Weight Lifting. Why would you treat your clones like crap then expect them to perform in bloom?". I haven't said that to anyone for years, but the current Olympics brought it to mind.


Regarding CO2, it's not absolutely necessary (in some environments) to produce nice buds, but if you're looking to get all that you can from any given strain, it is a must. CO2 supplementation allows the plant to use more light, this also means that it is drinking more water, and utilizing more nutrients. Light intensity, CO2, cool temps, ample water/nutes. Sticking to these parameters will not only give you a greater yield, but quality as well. Another thing that effects final quality/weight is take down/trim and drying method.

Aaaand... Don't get desperate and start using paclo.

Tons of fresh air is good. Your temps are good, how is your air circulation and movement?

How reflective are your walls? With just 2 light sources, you need all that light to bounce back on your plants.
