How cold is too cold?

so seeing as how it's winter snowing where I live and I'm in a small appt I can pretty much control the temp of my plants with the slide of my patio door. As I was reading in my handbook for growing one of the factors of getting females from seeds was to have lower temps, so my q is how low is too low I'm finally going to get a fan and some ducting for the light itself and then I have a floor fan bringing in the cold air from outside, I can probably get it down to around mid 60s I really do not want to pop out with males!!

Never heard of the temperature affecting your chances of getting a female. Are they just bagseed you're growing?

Also my grow closet gets down to about 65* F at night and they seem to be perfectly fine with it. I've been told it's not a big deal for it to get down to that temp at night.... During the day it's around 86*-92* depending if I have the fan on or not.

I had this exact same setup last time but my single plant turned out to be male :( This time I've got 3 growing hoping for one!!

My set up has dipped down into the 50s a couple time briefly and there is no effect ive noticed. I mean it is a weed, which are pretty resistant

im no expert on this subject but i don't believe the temperature has anything to do with if you get males or females...sounds like a superstition...

temps can go as low as the low 60's or upper 50's. i wouldn't let it get lower than say 57.

colder night time temps during flower will result in beautiful looking buds (plants that can turn purple will turn purple). thats all i really know about what low night temps can do.

I,ve been fighting this on my first grow. Went 12/12 HPS and get 60-62 sleep time, 74-76 wake time.
The girls don't seem to be minding it. Freaked out the first time after going 12/12 and they were all wilted from the dark.

Hope that it's true about colder temps bringing out the color! Growing Purple Haze clones!

Yeah, I can now actually vouch for that too.
I have a much bigger medical grow and live in New England. I can pump in cold air during the winter months. If your plants have genetics that are purple/black the cold will definitely bring it out quicker and they will be darker.

I remember Subcool saying something about NOT using a heating pad while germinating seeds. He said something along the lines of in his opinion the heat during germination induced more males. Sorry I cant remember if its here on a post or from Weed Nerd on Youtube.

I agree those are purty! I got this info out of jorge cervantes medical grow book which he got from some dude in the alps or some junk but that is all good to hear because yes when they turn off I'm sure it gets lower 60 s in there

under 60 or so, you get into issues of phosphorus lock out by the low temp.

i dont think temp affects gender, at all. i've had colder temps, hotter temps, and everything in between, seems for me bagseeds are usually 60-70% male.

Think about how MMJ plants used to grow outside before the man started to criminalize it. Your plants can stand a wide range of temperatures, and those changes aren't going to change the gender of a plant.

I would just make sure that you're not getting to the temperatures below freezing.

That's when you have bigger problems than gender issues. Dead plants are murder. LOL

Of course marijuana is a very hardy plant and can withstand low temperatures, but it's absolutely untrue that you can determine sex by exposing your plants to cool temperatures. You'd more likely shock your plants in becoming hermaphrodites than getting more females. Seedlings and vegetating plants need warm humid temperatures to thrive. If you want only females, buy feminized seeds. However, as mentioned above, cooler temperatures during flowering are a must. It will not only bring out the beautiful colors of the plant, but also increase resin production.

that's crazy well if anyones reading still I got the info from again jorge cervantes medical grow book who got it from the owner of dutch passion seeds. So then if I want warmer temps what's a good place to have it like mid 80s? Cause I'm trying to keep it under 80 and they seem to be loving it I turn a warm air humidfier on when the lights are off and then open my balcony door and let in a nice cool breeze for the fan to blow on them when the lights are on. So is it a good idea to run the humidifier 247 but if I do that I'm afraid it will just be a waste if I'm blowing in cold dry air

I've figured the best way is to do no humidifier when the lights are off and since I just got the fan on it should cool it down so I don't have to open my door it is a little sketchy moving the blinds when there's a visible grow room behind me so what is the best temp for these little guys it's a little under the 70 bar right now but then I figure it's 8 to 10 degrees higher under the light

I cant say anything about male/female ratios due to heat/cold. However I can say for a fact marijuana can survive in any climate above freezing and it can also survive a couple lite frosts. At least any strain I have known.
