How do you choose your nutes?

Hydroponics is a very competitive market. There always seem to be new nutes and additives being released by different companies. So I'm curious....how do you decide on what nutes to use?

At my local hydro store, they say that the quality of base chemicals are a lot higher in Europe than anywhere else. I have tried most of the big brands (bloom, advanced nutrients, growth tech, dutch master, canna, h&g, nutrifield etc) and come up with that House & Garden and Canna are they only way too go and anything else in not in the same ball park. Big call I know.

I use Canadian Xpress for coco. I use because everybody else I know uses it and they have never had any problems. Also, it is designed to be used with coco, and it is available at my local hydro shop.

But I have nothing to compare it too, so I wonder if there's anything else out there that would be even better.

There are so many different brands and types of nutes out there it can be overwhelming. What I personally did was I lurked like hell on this site for several months before I ever posted. Read/follow some of the more successful grow journals here. As I spent time reading I soon recognized a few members who REALLY have their shit together and have consistently produced amazing grows. Those are the guys I started focusing on, following their threads, eventually asking them questions, etc. PLUS, you have to do some experimenting on your own too, and find out what works for your particular application. I DEFINITELY do NOT have it perfected and I know I never will find that ultimate combination -- but I'm growing MUCH better than I was before, so I'm going in the right direction.

No one has the perfect solution because perfection is unattainable -- no matter how good you get at this there will always be someone out there who can teach you more. It's a never-ending road, so just enjoy the ride and try to pick up tidbits of useful info and new ideas as you travel along. As long as YOU are happy with the fruits of your labor, then it's all good!!!

canna a&b are pretty well thought of over here, i know one local town where virtually all the growers use it ( this town has more growers than any place i know, its like the local industry!!), both organic and hydro growers. havent used it myself though.

I started out using a simple 2 part system GH Grow & Bloom. I used this for a few years until I was comfortable with my setup and then took the plunge and went with Dutch Masters Gold Series. Everybody has their favs and I know you get what you pay for to a degree. I have been happy with the new nutes and passed on my leftovers to someone just starting out. It was pretty idiot proof and it is important to be a little successful in the beginning. There is nothing like harvesting your first.

I go with the most brightly packaged types that have crazy names.

No, I use either fox farm or GH most of the time. I switch about every time.

I live in Wales. You'd be surprised at how much of UK bud actually comes from here.
