How do you get started?

Little Tommy I just re-read my response to you and where I said, "My doctor is not a jerk." That could come off really bitchy and I do not mean it that way at all. So please don't be offended because I didn't mean any offense at all. You've been very helpful and kind and I'd feel bad if I had offended you. That's the only problem with online communication all the body language is missing.
No worries, it goes with the territory. I just see you where I was several years ago and wanted to reassure you that there is hope.

You are very reassuring and for as scared as I am you have given me the best support on how to handle my own doctor. If it weren't for you I don't think I'd have the courage to talk to him. Knowing someone else talked to their pain control doctor and it worked is confidence building.

I keep thinking about your 50% opiate reduction, wow! If I could get rid of some maybe I could get rid of this terrible dizziness I have. I actually fell from it, entertained the dog to no end but I'd rather not entertain him that way.

So how do you 'take' cannabis today? I see a huge proliferation of smoking stuff from pipes to gravity bongs to vaporizers! It seems that a vaporizer would be the safest way to use it? Whoa the expense especially if you probably only need a tiny amount since it is far more potent today. So how do you initially get started?

Your kidneys and liver will thank you for reducing the opiates and the all the stuff that usually come with them. I have found that the best way for me is making canna-butter and turning it into edibles. That is not always practical, especially for breakthrough pain. The vaporizer is my friend in that case.

Hi Little Tommy, everyone;
I just wanted to let you know I made an appointment. I kept dithering about telling/not telling my doctor and finally decided it was better if I did. So I called and although he wasn't particularly enamoured of the idea he did not say no. So now my hub and I have medical recommendations! Just that easily. Now to get busy and try some and see if it helps.

I also created a grow journal. It's more journal than grow as I'm still at the research phase but I figured it would be a central place so post my questions and you guys could check my progress, if you're interested. Thank you so much for ALL your help and support. I would never have had the nerve to do this if not for you guys.
Thanks,
Annie

Vaporizers are the safety way along with edibles. Edibles have a much more powerful effect and last longer than smoking/vaporizing but take ~45 to take effect where smoking/vaporizing gives you an immediate effect. Just be careful if you choose edibles. Eat too much and it'll leave you baked for days! I usually break off about a third of an edible, wait for it to take effect, then decide if I want more or not. That way I never take too much. Too much can be very unpleasant.

You have to be careful with edibles for sure, it can be unpleasantly like being drunk. What is unpleasant about being drunk? Ask a glass of water.

The man speaks the truth. I ate a one-dose bag of popcorn at a Super Bowl gathering year before last. Within about an hour, I was starting to feel it, but it was mild, so I took a hit off a joint, grabbed a beer, and sat back to watch the game. Then it started to come on, and come on, and just kept coming on, like a freight train. I was absolutely dumbfounded. Unable to to leave the recliner I was sitting in, unable to converse with the people around me, and unable to really comprehend what I was seeing on the TV. The worst part was how incredibly uncomfortable I felt in my own skin. And it lasted for hour and hours. That ride is a long one, and it's not over until it's over. So, yeah, proceed with caution, and start with very small doses.

I have severe chronic back pain, lower back and neck for the past 20+ years. I'm relatively home bound and currently take opiates for pain management having tried many other therapies unsuccessfully. Over the years I've heard talk about medical marijuana and pain relief but not having ever used marijuana, really surprising considering I was a child of the '60s, I know little about it. So how do you get started?

Things like will it work for me? What doctor to see? My pain control physician is extremely conservative I wouldn't even ask about something like this. I looked up a local 'marijuana' physician on the internet and they want $175.00 to see you! Ouch! Then isn't it another $100.00 for the county public health card etc?? And another $25.00 for a 'caregiver' card? Having been on SSDI for the past 20 years that is a LOT of money and medicare won't pay for this. So how do you get started?

Thank you,
Annie
In the Mojave where it's finally beginning to cool down.
growing it is easy...ask for advice here.

there are many strains available...some will help..some wont so dont be put off immediately with your first experience with medical mj.

idk if you can see private messages yet (dont have 25 posts) but im gonna try and PM you. you wont be able to write back but im hoping the info is easy enough to understand that you wont have questions.

best of luck

I think it is the best way to ingest, though it can be a challenge making the edibles the same strength each time. I was playing in a poker tourney. I ate 1/2 a brownie before I got there and the other 1/2 after I got to my seat. I was sitting there asking myself how much more intense is this going to get. I had about 45 mins of wondering if I should fold out of the tourney and eventually made it through. There is a thin line between where you want to be and where you could end up if you get the dosage wrong. Proceed with caution until you know the strain and the dosage.
