How do you get tall plants?

I have seen images of plants which get to be 6 - 7 feet high
i have only had two grow ops both outdoors and the plants never seem to get tall at all
Im not really interested in having them that big as they would be easier to see. im just wondering
How do you do it?

Get a strain that likes to grow tall and plant them very early in the growing season.

As mms said, get a pure sativa strian

Don't forget, that to grow properly you NEED to know your strain. And half your bud is genetics. But yes go get some sativa/hybrid strain that's known to grow tall and your set. Also feed those bitches right and it will make all the difference. I've currently got a skywalker hybrid outdoors right now and she just hit 11 ft.

But then you've got spaced out nodes and you gotta trim a ton off and then tie em up. It's rlly a pain. I'm planning to switch to some runderalis strains this upcoming season. They finish about 2 ft tall with some of the densest buds I've ever seen.
And the 3 leaves is pretty cool ;p

I admit the Rudy's look beautiful, both in flower and after the buds have dried and cured.. But potency, wow. I have never been so let down.
The stuff I harvested last year was a few weeks past its "ripe" period, since I had gone on vacation and was not able to chop it in time.. That could have decreased potency.

11 feet!! wow haha id love to see that. I researched runderalis strains a while ago it looks cool but havent heard too many
