ok. I was wanting to know how do you now your plant is don and ready to harvest? I know you wait for the amber trichs on your buds and everything. I seen people say when the fan leaves start to yellow and die.But I have grown a few plants before and never have I seen the leaves to start to yellow and die. I have grown autos that are said to be ready in 8 or 9 weeks. I let them go to like week 10 or even 11 and still never seen any yellow fan leafs. My plants are always bright green still. so how can you really tell when your ready to chop her down?

Hi there,

You can buy yourself a 30x magnifier quite cheaply which are great for looking at the trichs. Anywhere from 50% cloudy to mostly amber will be a nice smoke! Its mostly personal preference at this stage. I personally wait for nearly all amber trichs, which gives a more 'glued to the sofa' feeling because of more CBD (Cannabidiol), of course too early and you get more THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol).

it'll also depend on your strain. If you plan to stick with the same one for awhile - don't be scared to experiment?! Try starting four next time, and crop them all a week apart and do an Pepsi challenge with them...

Just out of interest, I've never grow Auto before - what's your setup and how big have they gone?

well I have grown lowryder#2s in a small brow box with just cfl lights. They dont grow real tall maybe a 12 to 16inches. I have got almsot an ounce off each. It was just over 24grams. Then I have grown dinafem critical +. so here are some pics of lowryder#2 and my critical+.Lowryder#2 04-14-2012 (1).jpgLowryder#2 04-14-2012.jpgLowryder#2 04-15-2012.jpgLowryder#2 04-14-2012 (2).jpgDinafem critical+ 002.jpgDinafem critical+ 04-14-2012.jpg

The leaves start to turn yellow and die, usually when you start your flush. If in soil, then you should start your flushing about 10 days before harvest...with water only.

Because you're not giving your plants any nutrients, they start to take them from your leaves, which turns them yellow.

Get a 60-100x magnifying scope. Look at your trichs, it usually takes hours to get the hang of it. But make sure what you're looking at is the actual trich and not a red hair making your trich look amber. If there is a red hair behind it or touching it, it can make a non amber trich look amber.

For a beginner, it's best to harvest when about 5% of your trichs are amber. Scientific studies show that THC is at it's peak when your trichs are still clear. Not cloudy and not amber. But some strains do not have that high of a THC content, so harvesting when the trichs are amber is good because you will atleast feel high...but amber trichs are not the type of high most people are looking for. If you wait until amber trichs, your pot will make you sleepy. I'm not sure about you, but I like to feel high and not sleepy. There is a big difference.
