how do you work out a gram per watt

Lights alone don’t make you a kilo/meter sq. Genetics and mutes are also VERY important
I agree, although it's a step in the right direction. Strain, nutrients and room conditions are all factors in final outcome

Yeah, only reason I use it is because this is where I learned about growing. I like @Renfro suggestion about using grams per square foot but I’d like to know what the scale is (ie what’s considered good/bad/avg)
Good? Bad? Average?

Most of that will change as you become a more experienced grower.
To use GPW as any metric? I find it as being useless!
SOG will destroy GPW value's! Over 4 is possible and over 3 (in SOG) should be high end average. There goes my opinion for the thread. LOL

SOG will also destroy GPSF, so that's not really a measure in my book either.

If your growing single plants and/or growing taller plants. Then Grams Per Plant would be more in line.
Still, Zips per plants tells me more then GPW.
Tall plants and no SCROG. You should be getting as many zips as gallons of the pot. If your good, real good, you can dbl that.... That has always been my goal.... I grow to get as close to strain potential as I can. That is a good goal to reach for...

You have to deliver limit level PPF lighting.
Dial in your environment. Keep it consistent.
Feed the plant what it want's and learn to do it, without "boosting".

The next level is learning to enhance terpene's, and increasing THC or CBD.

Good luck and the way to figure out how good you are? Besides return customers? How many come back and say "This is the most smelly, tasty, smooth and potent (for it's strain) that I've had."

Good luck

Kinda like how in the UK they use stone still. Ridiculous metric for weighing someone but it’s still used because people can relate
I've never given that a thought, but yes I see what you mean, idk what a 100kg or 220lb build looks like but I can picture a12/15 stone person.

I'm the same with kilometres, I can't get to grips with how far 100km is without having to re calculate approximate miles, say 100 miles for example I can relate to in distance without even thinking about it.

The more I've thought about gpw is still a valid measurement, trying to reinvent the wheel lol

A combo of crazy fires near my home, covid stress and a bad relationship led to me losing control of my drinking (and therefore job) so i had to check into rehab a week before harvest. I missed it all. My buddy handled it all and has pictures of the final product. One of these days I’ll get him to send them to me. I know it looks like I’m trying to pull some bullshit lol. Barring my own demise or another trip to rehab (unlikely, one was enough!) I will fully document this run. I know everyone on the internet is a liar so I’m not expecting you to trust me
Fake it till ya make it!

i know people say a gram per gram per watt are what they hoping to achieve. i got a 4ft x 4ft grow tent and i want to grow 9 plants in 6 litre pots under a 600w HPS i recon i could get one oz per plant by doing this and im far from experienced. so if your goal is a gram a watt what should you be getting with the same set up.
ok thats too mant plants rethink your whole deal 4 plants in a 4x4 under 600 watts should give you about a pound about 3/4 gram per watt could be more could be less but 9 plants will give you less than 4 because of over crowding

If you're over .5gpw, you're doing ok. If I have quality at .65gpw, I'm doing "average".

I'm always perpetual, and I only flower for 7-8weeks. I may get a higher gpw if I flowered for longer, sure.

Basically, I calculate GPW based on yield per 60 days of flower. It's kinda cheating comparing 12weeks of wattage to 8 weeks of wattage.
I wouldn't be impressed by 1.0gpw if the plant vegged for 6 months, and flowered for 4.... If it vegged for 2 months, and flowered for two months, 1.0gpw (of flowering wattage) would be damn impressive.

I think kWh per gram would be a better way to measure efficiency/yield.

Don’t think he was trying to argue. He is trying to educate, he gives a lot of good advise to new growers. ✌
I know he's not arguing, I'm crap with words, I meant back in the day I think some uk'ers made this gram per watt crap and later on there were arguments over how shite it was as a model and it opened peoples' minds to other ways of measuring quantities, then krusty buckets came and then and then and then
