How does my outdoor trellis look?

Seriously dude. I’m blown the fuck away. I never would have imagined those little clones I put out there in early June could get so big. I won’t have to buy weed for a long time, and that makes me very happy. I got maybe 1/2 oz combined off the original seedlings. I did those indoors and made a lot of beginner mistakes with them though.

Here are some new pics from this morning. They’re getting close. They’ve developed this ripe cantaloupe smell that’s really strong and can be smelled for some distance, but it isn’t recognizable as weed. I’ve read reports of blue mystic having a strong melon flavor, but this smell is crazy, like sniffing an overripe cantaloupe. I hope that mellows out a bit and the blueberry smell from the sugar leaves gets brought out with the cure. No idea how the live rosin will taste at this point.

And here’s one more. I just love how this cola is catching the evening sun. You can see the light in every trichome. I’ve been looking at them with the jewelers loupe and they’re all still mostly clear. I’m shooting for 50/50 cloudy/amber. At least another two weeks. I think the buds will continue to fill out more, although they’re already getting pretty dense.

The aurora out there is a couple weeks behind and it’s growing two massive colas.

I'm in no means trying to be the negative person here...but those plants look very sativa leaning and all very far away from being done. They have not gone through the swell yet ...and still have a lot of white pistils. Most look at least 3 weeks from finishing if not more. I hope rot stays at bay and you are able to harvest when they are ripe. Good luck :peace:

That’s what I thought too. Blue mystic is supposedly (flo x afghani) x blueberry, and I think the flo is pretty pronounced. They stretch like crazy and the other pheno that I haven’t been taking as many pics of is even more sativa leaning. I agree with you. I think they have at least 3 weeks left, and I think the buds still have a lot of filling out to do. I’m going for amber/cloudy trichomes and I’m in no hurry to cut them down. I want maximum flavor and yield. We have super mild falls out here and I think the aurora in there may even go into November.

I’m also pleased to see you say they haven’t started swelling yet. Yeah I would say only about 5% of the pistils have turned brown, but some of these buds are getting meaty. Other than the size, the blue mystic is performing exactly as advertised — very low odor. No obvious weed smell at all, just melon and blueberry, but both phenos get huge. Nirvana says it’s a compact, low odor plant. Not a low odor plant that more than doubles in size during the stretch. I’m almost wondering if it’s blue dream that got mislabeled, except for the description of the smell is spot on.

So far I’ve only been talking about the blue mystic, but there’s another strain in there, and this aurora is looking nice enough to start mentioning now. It produced the two tallest colas on the entire trellis — they’re both over 3 feet above the trellis. She’s stacking flowers like crazy, there are tons of trichomes and the resin glands are already getting super big and gooey, and the pistils have a beautiful pink tint.

She stayed vegetative for almost an entire month longer than the blue mystic, and didn’t start showing pistils until early September. I’m anticipating that she goes late, and that I probably won’t chop her down until early November.

Well I’ve been diligently watching the trichomes and pistils, and some of them were ready so I did a partial harvest today. Just the top halves of the colas on the more indica leaning pheno. Also harvested the potted one. The colas were getting so heavy that even two agricultural nets was having difficulty holding them up. The other, more sativa leaning pheno has at least 2 more weeks, and the aurora probably has a month. After I got these out I was able to adjust the netting to hold the others up a lot better. I’m glad I can harvest in increments because I would not have space to harvest everything all at once. I never intended for the plants to get this big, but I’m sure as hell glad they did. I’ll post some nug shots and weight after I get them trimmed up. I’m planning on letting the lower buds fill out for at least another week, although I’m planning to freeze most of them for live rosin.

They were getting roughly 8-9 hours of direct sunlight, from sunup to about 3pm. I think I put the trellis a little too close to my privacy hedge and next time I’ll move it to a place that gets more direct sun. The buds I trimmed up are pretty loose and airy, but I think it’s genetic. There were plenty of amber trichomes, and that pheno that I harvested got particularly battered by a recent storm that didn’t do much damage to the other 4 plants. I think I should have let it go another week, but it may just be totally genetic. The other pheno still has mostly white pistils and needs to go longer. I can also tell that the buds on the other pheno are much denser. It seems like good enough bud, but not the absolute top shelf fire I’m after, so I’m going to move on from this strain and continue the pheno hunt. I’ve got a white widow that smells like lime candy that I’m really excited about. Here’s a pic of everything that was dry enough to trim up and put in a jar this morning. They’re big, airy buds and my preference is small, tight, hard buds. It’s very frosty and smells fantastic though. The other pheno is going to put out much more weight. I think all the buds I cut on Saturday will end up filling two of those half gallon jars, but that was only the top colas of two of the 6 plants in the trellis. There was a decent amount of larf that didn’t go into the jar, that I’ll use for rosin/bubble hash. I’m starting to get really excited about the aurora. The two main colas are massive, and they’re going to get really dense. They also don’t look like they’re going to be ready for at least a month, so I hope they finish up before the frost. Hopefully the cool temps do some interesting things.

Well I’ve just about got everything trimmed up. I wish I hadn’t had the bout of shitty weather because it got nice and I would have liked to be cutting that aurora today instead of last week. I just have one more big aurora cola to trim and that’s it. The sativa dominant blue mystic pheno turned out to be fire. At least the rosin I made from it is. I’ll know more about the buds in two weeks. I only trimmed up the nicest buds. I have a big bucket of larf that’s getting washed once I finish trimming and add all that. Most of what I have still hanging is too larfy to cure so I will probably end up making almost half the buds into bubble hash when it’s all said and done. I made some dry ice live rosin last night with all the lowest, larfiest buds. Only got 2 gs but it’s really good. I haven’t precisely weighed everything, but each half gallon jar of blue mystic is about a QP of the best buds. Flower rosin yield on the good blue mystic pheno is not good. About a 7:1 yield. Even though I harvested it early the aurora is still quite dense and the quart jar is almost 3 zips. For my first big outdoor harvest I would call it a success, although I made some mistakes. Next year I’m using better phenos and buying a big fucking thing of cedar oil to keep the caterpillars at bay.

In the meantime, I’ll see y’all in the indoor growing forum! Cheers!
