ok, i have a few problems here.
number one being, why the fuck do any of us care what any celebrities think about anything? if i want advice about how to be a manufactured celebrity, then i'll ask one of these cardboard cut out stars for their advice, otherwise, shut up, you ignorant, uneducated fucks....

number two, wear a shirt or a name tag explaining how you want to be addressed, and i'll oblige you, but don't get fucking huffy with me if you are physically a man, or woman and i address you as such with no fucking labeling in place...how the fuck am i supposed to know what the hell you like to be addressed as?

number three, maybe simplify the naming conventions? most people have a hard enough time with the "english" they teach us in school, without you adding 1000 new personal pronouns to the language.

number 4, how about some consistency? i truely don't understand the difference between gay and queer...i've asked a couple of gay people and they couldn't say what the difference was either...do we have to learn the terminology from every region of the country and commit it to memory? do you get to call yourself whatever strikes you at the moment and we're supposed to keep up?....i can't keep up with who you call ms., mrs. and miss...and you want me to keep up with 20 plus fluidly changing terms...

i think most of you know me well enough by now to know i don't have any problem with gay, straight, trans, whatever...but i do have a problem with trying to keep up with naming conventions that apparently have no rules at all...and with people getting upset with other people for breaking rules that aren't set out anywhere

ok, call me a neanderthal now and tell me why i'm a backwards hillbilly...just somewhere in there, explain this ^ to me, in words my simple neanderthal mind can grasp

IMO it is hard to know how much of it is legit gripes and how much is just all the noise being produced online confusing the shit out of people on these types of issues taking advantage of people who are vulnerable being nudged into saying some crazy shit that people can point to as being a bigger issue than it is.

As another neanderthal, I'll say that I think the best thing you can do is get used to the use of "they" as a singular.

I think Neil Degrasse Tyson summed it up perfectly.

I’m not particularly interested in Demi Lovato’s opinions about things they know nothing about. If, however, they are telling us how they wish to be addressed personally, I’m all ears.

Its been my experience that people who identify as non binary are forgiving of slip ups and appreciate that you’re giving an effort to reprogram. Some of us have been around for while and it takes a bit of work to do that. If it helps people feel included or safer or better in any way, it’s worth the effort to me.

we're living half the old way and half the new..i remember reading an article in amazement which said there would be a computer in every home by year 2000; walking the mall with my infant daughter, standing outside of Radio Shack with a 12 inch screen that had movement- 1990.

and now here we are..print screen, screen shot, screen grab how many different ways can we say it? why must we evolve our language?

societal norms of the past, handing down items are frowned upon..family unit is cancelled.

long live FB and Twitterverse..programming AI as we speak with your memories you've willingly uploaded- silly, stupid humans.

'wouldn't it be cool if you had the power?' -Donald Trump

all in all this it's a slow news week and her story was latched on to; we have a real president again that doesn't reveal his every move by standing at angle screaming over Chopper One..i mean hell the guys have been posting their favorite retro cartoons news has been so slow.

it is reprogramming...it's the majority changing to accommodate the minority, something which does not occur in nature...so does that mean we're rising above baser instincts, or does that mean we're stepping even further away from nature?
i think it means both, and that the real question is how far can we step away from nature before we destroy our niche in nature?
this has very little to do with my OP though, not trying to imply that this issue will crash civilization, but all the little pieces add up...to what, i have no idea yet.

don't accommodate them. i still say 'print screen'..you mention pronoun, but i've noticed changes in verbs..things seem to have to be fast ie. the grab in screen grab and i believe this has occurred because of social media and the need for immediate knowledge. i think we are headed into danger.

Im sorry man, but pretty damn near all of known human history disagrees.

The majority bending a knee to kings and shit is what I point to for this.

You sure isn't just "the majority learning new words"...?

the majority learning new words...is the majority changing to accomodate the minority...they are why we are learning new words.

"Marriage" used to be a union between a man and a women, now it's a union between two people. I've got a christian/trump buddy that's still hung up on that. But, let me ask a simple question: do you know of any socially liberal changes in society that have turned out to be wrong in hindsight?

Because our language has been changed to what a bunch of homophobic wealthy white men wanted it to be?
maybe, i don't know. i wasn't there when it was changed. i'm not saying it's good or bad, just that it's happening, and that it's happening to accommodate a minority of the population. that is not a phenomenon that has been prevalent in recorded history. usually the minority is largely ignored, and the majority only very slowly assimilates the minorities needs into the cultural gestalt, more through osmosis than through conscious decision.

We have changed a lot of the things we have called different races over the last century too.

The article was about Degrasse having some fun at some people's expense for their weird belief that ET is offended if we call him an alien.

What did that have to do with your being thin skinned when it comes to your clumsy social skill regarding civility to others?
