How hard is it to connect a ballast?

What if I'd ask some person to connect it? I know someone who used to work as an electrician or something like that, would he be able to do it?

I would just buy a digital ballast , The lumatek can go 120 or 240 . I'm not sure if you have to order a 240 plug , . nm , you just plug the bulb in and away you go

First and foremost you need to realize that if you go with any hid and anything other than a digital ballast you will have a eletrical footprint signifigantly higher than you would if you use a digital ballast. Here's the truth...............You get what you put inot you grow dont skimp on anything for your garden. Do your homework and dont get sucked into the first "salesman" who tries to convince you that what they have you need! Sometimes you can find other farmers who have decent used hid equipment which can be used for this grow no worries! Kiss simple and always ask questions. I want you to enjoy your garden so i will try to help if i can.

So should I just go for CFLs then?
Start with some CFLs or T5s for vegging, not too expensive. Then as you're girls (hopefully) grow, save your money and get a 400 watt HPS. You'll be very happy this way, like i said before don't rush into it. Remember to put into consideration ventilation, air flow, nutrients and all that stuff.

Just take you're time homie, buy one thing at a time if thats all you can do.

get an electrician to help you out if your concerned with hazards. shit id get one better than taking a risk or just become informed. better yet go with cfls or t5s. theyre much easier to set up, cheap, and dont get as hot as mhs or hpss. start off slow then you learn the ways to grow

If I use CFLs for growing would I need some kind of air ventilation or can I grow without it? The room I'll grow in will be pretty big.

It will be a good idea to have air movement simulating wind for your plants. It will make them stronger and healthier. You could get away with just oscilating fans if your using a t5 or just cfls. Its better practice to have exraction to remove stale air though.

if you get some cfls or t5s just make sure you get plenty of normal household fians in there for circulation, heck even duck tape some ducting to one to move the hot air out, get creative. just because you dont have the money doesn't mean you cant grow. Use your imagination! I'll keep checking back here man, if not message me and i'[ll help you out as much as i can.

there shouldnt be any concern with ventilation if u use cfls. they dont get hot. hid bulbs would need ventilation as they raise temps real quick
