how hot is too hot?

I've got a few plants growing in pots on my deck. Today was 99 (with a dew point around 70). It's been pretty hot the last few days... and supposed to hang around 100 for the next week (with dew points in the 60s and 70s). I have 2 established medium size plants and 3 seedlings out there.

I've been watering every day in the middle of the day to try to keep things from getting too hot. I've also been misting throughout the day.

So... how hot is too hot? How much need for concern is there? Is there anything additional I can do to help my girls through this heat wave?

DONT mist your plants when its hot! it'll burn the leaves!
It gets 100+ for weeks at a time here. they will be fine
keep em watered!

Be careful when you mist, it can act like a magnifying glass for the sun and burn holes in the leaves. Also, what strain do you have? Sativas do better in high heat.

right... I shouldn't have said misting throughout the day. I mist in the morning and after about 8 pm... when the sun isn't so direct.

I have a raspberry cough... which is very sativa dominant, if not purely sativa. The others are a snow white and 3 papaya seedlings.

i hadn't thought about that... but you're right. Logically, sativas probably fair much better in these conditions.

the one that I thought my dog got... but it turned out to be a squirrel? It died. Sigh.

It perked back up and everything looked good for about a week and half. Then leaf by leaf... branch by branch it wilted. Finally there was just 2 little crowns left (it had been topped). It wasn't looking good... New seeds showed up in the mail... I pulled it.

I think my problem is that I replanted it in its big pot 2-3 days after it's accident. I should have kept it in a smaller pot with some type of humidity dome (of course allowing it to breath several times throughout the day) for longer. I still think I could have saved it. I just fucked up this time.

Dont mist when its direct sunlight outside, also it really does depend on the strain, some of the genetics in plants actually rather prefer the heat like that and others........Dont lol

I mist my plants in direct sunlight at like 2:00 pm during the hottest part of the day. I dont understand why everyone says not to do this- I am trying to figure out whats wrong with it My plants get soaked and all the water evaporates them off in like 2 minutes or so. It does NOT burn the leaves and I think they probably like the cool down. Will someone who actually knows what they are talking about chime in on this one.

lol @ everyone who says misting during the heat of the day will burn holes in your plants. that's just plain silly.

if that nonsense were true, i would not have had zucchini squash on my burgers this afternoon and my corn and beans would all be dead.

anything over 85 is too hot, not that it will kill ur plant but once it reaches those temps but it slows or can even stop metabolic activity altogether. the ideal temp for mj is 72-76F so i would think about going to grab a burlap shade cloth if i were u. it will drop the temp 10-15 degrees. ive had mine up all year and have not had any problems related to heat. i will remove it in a month or so when the temps drop in order to let in more light.

living in south florida i find the mj, autos & photos, love the hot weather and high humidity.. they grow like wildfire. i mist my plants in full sun even when they are as young as 2 days old. never has had any negative effects. they love it!

What is that plant over to the left, is it a bird of Paradise, I planted a few in my back yard this spring they are doing well. I first saw them in Jamaica and came home and bought two of them. When they mature they make these giant, red and yellow, hard upside down flowers. Very coool stuff

It was 101 yesterday and as humid as the rain forest... literally. Today is cooler... 95-100. It was time that the two larger plants were moved indoors to bloom. Just 3 seedlings left out there. They are doing just fine.

Yes, that is a bird of paradise. I've had it for 5 years now. I'm worried that I won't be able to bring it back indoors this winter. It's getting too big... about 8' tall right now. Some interesting things are going on with it. I started a thread if you want to check it out: https://www.rollitup.org/gardening/541591-bird-paradise-clone.html

Ive even misted indoors with a 1000w light a foot away... and I didnt even shake the plants to get the droplets off I just waited. Burning holes in your plants, what a joke.

Dont just believe what you read on the internet there is alot of false misinformation out there from idiots who try to teach things they have never even practiced or tried.

misting with straight water wont burn the leaves but if u spray some azamax or bt during the day it will burn up ur plants. there must be some type of oil of somethin in em cuz ive done it before and it did burn up my plants.
