How is this possible, my seeds from 1976 Bicentennial have sprouted and are growing?

I recently went and cleaned out my Mom's basement and in a box of Star wars cards was a film canister of old seeds that I had saved from some good weed. I remember well the date and time as I was in Montreal in 1976 when I got the weed and sneaked the seeds back with me and forgot all about them. I forgot them since at the airport I had a rough time, I had bought 3 or 4 pipes and bongs and Customs took all of them from me.

Anyway, I put the seeds in a wet napkin, there were about 35 of them, 8 germinated. This was three weeks ago and five are now about 5 inches tall and are under 18/6 lights the other 3 were deformed and died. I have never heard of seeds this old being feasible but so far so good. I wonder what the weed will be like as I remember the 3 ounce bag I bought being very good stuff. Has anyone out there ever successfully grown weed from seeds this old..they are 34 years old!

Seriously, you should breed them all for seed.

You never know, this strain may have thought to have been long gone. You brought it back. Please, breed it for seed.

And just so everyone is aware, selling seeds or clones on RIU are grounds for being banned. Just a head's up.

wow thats impressive.... I do know of poppy seeds to remain viable after long periods of time, but this is just amazing....again perhaps like it was said earlier the airtight film canister helped retain the moisture in the seeds and thus kept them from decomposing. and Yes please show pics these will be neat to see. You can call them DISCO ERA or call them "stayin alive" it was written in 1976 as well(released in 77) haha LOL

Wow quite an interest, sure, I will post some pics as soon as I can and keep all of you updated on them. I do not know how too make seeds it always happened to me on accident but I will read up on it. I was only 15 myself when I got these seeds, I started young. I graduated from Brown University with a 3.9 average so all those people who told me I would fry my brain by smoking weed were wrong!

Old genetics are killer man, alot of the older strains have been bred out of existence.
