How long before start vegetation?

Hi, this is my second time growing but I'm a bit hazy on the details. I've got two,tiny plants (see pics), they're about 3-4 inches tall and are still germinating (lights 18/6). They are about 3 weeks old and I was wondering if it's time to start vegetation?

once the first set of true leaves appear, which looks like so in the pics. damn you said 3wks old? they look a little on the small side for 3wks. what is your light setup? if cfl's get them as close as possible, about 3-5" from the top.

Basicly, they are in a vegitaion stage now and will remain in that state until you drop the light 1o 12/12.
You're set up to plant them the same way I do.
I keep them in a dixe cup - forever. When it's time to put them in soil or a larger container, I cut the bottom out and place it in the soil. By leaving it in the cup it's easy to fill an inch or two of water each time thry need water. In time the top part of the cup breaks down and the top just peals away leving the rest in the soil - This is a great way to put it in without ever stressing it out.

They have been growing for 2 weeks not 3, sorry (15 days to be exact) Alright, but I've still got the lights on 18/6, should I switch them to 16/8 then and let them veg?

^^^^thats some real good advice.but those stems are really streched id want them buried quick so they dont fall over.18/6 is pretty standard veg time but u can do 16/8 if u like

just my opinion...vegg for 24/0. ive done so many side by sides with tons of different strains and the 24/0 light will be a bigger bushier plant everytime over 18/6. use the 18/6 or 20/4 only if u have heat issues or u are super concerned with power usage. in vegg tho, power useage shouldnt be a big problem unless u are vegging with 1000w's, which im sure knowone does.

when you re-pot the plant you can put it in its new pot and bury it all the way up to just under the first set of leafs(cotyledons).

Alright, so since they are about 4 inches, I can bury them about 3 inches deep thanks!

i agree with you as well. besides, them 6hrs of sleep is only going to cause more stretch than needed. cfl's or t5 as close as possible with 24hr lights on is a sure way for me.

more like 2. if that's not enough, just make a note to bury more the next time you transplant.

it seems like us 24/0 are a rare breed anymore. ive never bought into the "plants need to sleep" crap. they are not people..they are plants. as far as i know, there isnt a soul alive that can speak plant lingo or hear when a plant says "its my bed time"..untill that day, i call bull shit. anybody that has ever done a side by side test can see the proof with their own two eyes just as i have 20+ times. 24/0 wins everytime.

I personally clone and veg with 24/0 lighting until Im ready to flower then I switch to 12/12.

Learned a lot from this thread. I'm definitely going to jump on the 24/0 bandwagon once I get my stuff up and going. To clarify, once they have germinated and I move them to a small container I can go ahead and leave the lights on all the time until I switch to 12/12 for flowering? My last question is how long does vegetation usually last and how will I know when my plants are ready to be put on the budding light cycle?

The longer the veg the better the hedge! Seriously. 2 months if possible. Don't think it's worth it? Sometime start 2 of the same strain from seed. Veg one the standard 2 weeks here (good God) or a month even and let the other keep vegging. Run them the same 12/12 time so the 2nd will be a month behind. Then compare yields and never veg for a month again. 2 to grow big at least. Sabe el burro?

Some of you cats need to need to grow yourself a frigging quarter pound or whatever and have some smoke so you can have some patience.

also where people mess up is the vegg too long and then about 3 weeks into flower they dont have enough room and plants start loosing light and what would of been dense nuggetry becomes a fluffy hash trash pile. if u never flowered MJ out and ur a rookie atit, just remember that the plant will at LEAST double in size and most likely triple in size both verticaly and horizonaly. i vegg for 6 weeks and then flower. they range from 2-3 feet tall strain depending) when i flip them.
