How Long Can I Leave Plants Unattended?

not really. well it depends where you live i guess. in northern europe the room temperature is around 17-22 degrees Celsius, so is never too high for indoor DWC. the most important thing is to prevent light going inside the pot or the reservoir. i also usually add a powder of mycorrhyza/beneficial bacteria to the res each nutrient change (ie every 7 days). although in submerged roots the mycorrhyza never take hold like in soil the bacteria can still help take up nutrients, or at least in the worst case scenario to prime the plant immune system without causing actual infection (like a vaccine in human for instance).

about air is not such a big deal as people think. i think root can live submerged for a full week with no issues, as soon as the water was well oxigenated before. i had once one of my crappiest air pump to break, and the plant was perfectly fine for the 2 days till i replaced it. many plants (not sure about cannabis) can be grown in full immersion hydroponic without any bubbler at all.
I got away for 3/4 years running around 21-22 c but with the chiller things are way better and yup I run beanies as well.

My one and only experience with DWC was a disaster but the first thing that happened was the pump quit and in 24 hours the plant was in major distress. There may have been many factors that made it happen quicker though. Over feeding, lack of oxygen to start, and temps.

I am pretty in hydro the amount of oxygen availability in water is based off the water temp.

So water temp should be around 75F from what I read, but that only applies hydro setups that has roots sitting in water like DWC.
I don't know many hydro setups but I ran DWC before water temps matter, my roots in DWC were always darker more brownish (which I would say because water temps were issue), but now in my ebb and flow table my roots are always bright white.

Hydro grow like ebb and flow were roots are exposed to water only during the flood cycle, water temp does not matter because oxygen will reach the roots 2 ways;
1. When the water drains that pulls oxygen to roots
2. The water has dissolved oxygen in it because the res has a air stone in it also.

Well I run ebb and flow as well as sprayers and temps seem to matter. Also I think you'll find that the recommended temps are below 70 but I find my girls like 65 F.

best way I`ve found is larger pots

I`ve used hydro a good flood and drain with a back up tank to fill it and you can go a week easy maybe more just if something go`s wrong or a fan or light brakes that you`ll have an issue

but best way is bigger pots normally I like it so that your watering every 2 to 4 days, so if I was set up that way I`d just double the size of the pot and maybe set my more intense lights down a few hours to slow the plants drinking so would be pretty easy to get them to 8 days with no issues over 10 days is pushing it a bit for an indoor grow, outside you can set things up so you never need to even see them till their done but that means you risk finding crappy bush weed or nothing at all

best time is during flush as you can set up a hose timer or whatever to just get them wet every few days

I would just like to retract my previous statements :o, forgot to turn the pumps on last night after a Res change and had a heart attack this morning. Half the plants had fallen over and were droopy :o. Hopefully they'll be ok but yup no more than 12 hours I figure :(. These plants have gotten way bigger than I typically grow so that may have contributed to there quick stress.

I Made an RDWC with 3 in pipes to prevent clogs and having to worry about flooding. Attach my RO system or a garden hose to a float valve to keep water levels the same, and a pH controller,l to auto dose my acids. A 2 part nutrient dose controller to auto feed my plants. These two things are cheaper than people realize. I have left my house for 20 days without checking on my plants. You just can't do that with soil, even on a top feed with a timer. And even before I got the controllers my pH would fluctuate anywhere from 4 to 10 and my plants did fine. Same thing with low ppms. My neighbors do a flood and drain and their plants are no more than half the size of mine in deep water, and they can't leave for more than a few days even with float valves on.

Water temps isn't just about DO. Your Rez will stay cleaner longer (and if you use Cyco and a chiller you can go months without a water change...) A lot of nutrients even say keep your water below 71 degrees even in an ebb and flow... There's a reason behind this. If you can't afford a chiller don't do hydro, or you are just asking for smaller plants, root rot or something else that can mess up your grow. There are many side by sides with hydro methods having one chilled and the other not, and the chilled water tables always do remarkably better than the non chilled water.

I agree with the chilled water being the game changer but if I left them for 20 days they would be into the lights and burnt to hell.

well ebb and flow is more susceptible than dwc, because with the pump off the plants are out of ware.

+dont worry though . cannabis adapted to grow in very dry areas with lots of sunlight. the "droopiness" is jut a consequence of the lower water pressure in the younger stems and leaves. in few hours sould get back to normal

That was what was really strange. 12 hours and the fucking plants were falling over not just the leaves. It's like they had been frozen and died, my first thought. But yes they are back to, not normal, but perked up.
