how long can you keep a mother plant?

im relatively new to growing and want to start cloning, but curious how long i can keep a mother going. any help would be cool.

As long as you can keep it going. I usually end up with a lag in my clones and toss a mother in and then promote one of the clones to mom.

As long as you want, but most growers suggest changing every year, and start with a new seed or as above, a clone

rather than using clones, you can remove the aged mother plant from the pot, remove roughly half the root system, tease the remaining media out of the roots and repot in fresh media. cut back the foliage to compensate for the root pruning and the plant will be rejuvenated after a week or so. iv kept mothers alive for 4 years. wish i still had them :/
