How long can you keep the same mother?

i want to get some mothers going from the top $ seeds i bought, but i heard turning clones into mothers can reduce there genetic quality (just stuff i have heard, doesn't really make sense but), so im wondering how i can or should keep my original mothers b4 i raise new ones

can you not just keep trimming them back to keep them a reasonable size?

i also think it would be fun to flower them from time to to time when you were ready to replace them and see the fricken trees they would be.

Keep them as long as you like, I kept one mom for 7 years. A clone is an exact copy of the mom that's why there called clones they differ in no way.

Mine are a bit over 1 1/2yr old. I've had the strain for close to 3 yrs and this is the second set of moms.

when you trim, trim the roots equally much as you trim the top.
you can cut a big tree, down to a tiny stub, so long as it got some green and if you trimmed the roots to match whats above ground in size
(slightly in favor of the rootmass to allow for the soil.5-10%)

which takes space considerations entirely out the window.

(though you might not want to be as drastic as cutting down to a stub if you really like the mother and want to keep it, slightly increased chance of killing the plant if you get the rootmass wrong, best to do a 25% trimming more regularily, do the 50-75+% (have done 95% with success)
later with more practice Or cut a few clones at the same time to make sure to keep the line.

although ive heard of quite many people just cloning a clone after a clone. never really keeping a mother. even for 10 years or more.
