I think ot depends on the quality... get some high end strips that health folks use, quite precise, they are dual color and go in tenths of incriments... never a calibration worry then..

Also, is it best to store the meter in a calibrated solution?

My pen is supposed to sit in storage solution but I just leave it in water. I paid $30 and it's been the best one so far after paying up to $200 . I calibrate once a week just to check.

I dug mine out after a year and a half of sitting on a bench with a cover over the probe. It was only slightly off so I put the cap back on and retired it for another year on the bench

Ya I drive mine like I stole it, gets pretty dry sitting for the outdoor season lol.
