How long until I switch to flowering?

Hey everyone. I'm on my very first grow. I'm actually just wondering when I should switch to flowering. Unknown strains and everything. I used bag seeds I had, and I'm curious to know. Yesterday I topped my plants, so it will be a little bit anyway. They're about 5 weeks old, but a little behind due to newbie issues. They're all around a foot tall, some more some a little less. Like I said, I just topped them. When should I switch to flowering. I'm actually a little anxious to get this grow going because I want to plant some good seeds that I know will be females. As of now I don't know if these are male or female. If they were yours how long would you wait until after topping that you would start flowering?

Just do what the man says!!! Jk it makes them sprout up fast overnight practically. I do the same.
Because they are probably trying to find light! Do you like stretched lanky plants?
I don't think there is any REAL evidence to dark periods helping but BEFORE flower.............
Each to his own I guess
OP you should just think about your space and lighting, the plant will most likely double in size when you flower, maybe more. So just grow it until you think you will still have the space and your lights can cover the plant when it is double the size it is before flower.

You can flip at anytime, sativa dominant bag seed? They are 1foot tall expect 2x - 3x stretch, account for height and flip them earlier with less height, flip them later with more height.

I've also never heard of the 72 hour dark period. I could see how it would help them stretch before flowering though.

back to your original question, Right now you can flower at any time you want. It is totally up to you now. You can switch over today or you can wait a couple months, just depends on how big you want the plants to get.

Hey gaztron, hope everything is good. I got the 72hr dark when switching from veg to flower from Ministry of Cannabis. They recommend doing that at switch and prior to harvest. And actually the 72hrs is really too short to ntice any stretch as it takes them longer than that to convert over to flower. Once they change over is when they go into their stretch.

I think 72 hours is plenty to cause stretching!
Alot of people recommend to do these things but I'm still to see any concrete proof.
I have had plants show pistils in 3 days of 12/12, yes they stretch at the onset of flowering to put the flowers out to catch pollen but plants will stretch anytime during growth if they are searching for light.
I just think it's another myth with nothing to back it up and it doesn't make sense to do it IMO, it's very unnatural to have 3 days of complete darkness unless you are santa

All i can say is Ministry of Cannabis has a contact page on there website. I'm sure they would be glad to hear your thoughts on this.
It's not my idea or something i came up with. It's info i got from a reputable breeder that ive dealt with for quite a while now.

If you just topped then I'd wait till you have another 2-3 nodes started, which is 10 or so days. I go straight to 12/12 without any voodoo in between.

Maybe it does but less flower time means less growth. So unless it also makes the plant stronger and grow faster you would end up with less yield.
What they mean by less flower time is that the flower time will be reduced by the amount of time it saves for the plant to normally flip from veg to flower. Which until it does its not gonna produce nothing anyway because its in limbo betwen veg and flower

I understand what they mean but it still will give less growth time over all, when the plant is stretching from flowering being induced it makes a bunch of flowering points so less time in this phase would mean less flowers.
Im not saying it's wrong it just doesn't work in my head lol and there are so many myths to growing it's hard to pick whats fact or opinion.

Isn't that the truth. It always seems like theres some new nutrient or method of growing thats supposed cutting edge technology that ends up being cutting edge shit. lol
Anyway, have a good 1 and its been fun.
