How many CFL's do I NEED ???

9 plants should not be grown together under CFLs.

Once you exceed 300 watts of CFL lighting, you reach the saturation point where CFLs stop being viable (financially and efficiently).

Each flowering plant needs a minimum of 100w.
Agreed 100%

Using CFL's over 300W is just plain STUPID and inefficient.

For me the trigger is about 250W or less cause I have dimmable 600W MH/HPS so at 50% dim I draw about 325W total and can cover much larger area than with CFL's of same wattage, then as needed boost it to 400W and then 600W for flowering.

Love this very versatile 600W light.

Do you have a link to the Versatile Light. Not necessarily where you bought it but maybe the manufacturer's site with specs.
