How Many Plants Can I Grow In My Room?

I have a 3ft Length by 4ft Width by 7ft Height hyrdro-tent with reflective walls and a 400 HPS bulb. I am wondering how many plants I can effectively grow in this space. What would be the most effective way... that is for my wattage and lumens and space how many plants would be optimal? And, is many smaller plants better than fewer larger plants?

id say 4 and youd be golden. if itz your first time 4 is plenty, you could probably squeese up to 6 if ye realy wanted to but thay would b packed in.
then just top them to your liking.
wot you gonna grow in soil?

Yeah,I am doing soil. I have harvested twice and did four each time but just felt that i could get more yield. How tall should I be growing my ladies before I switch them into flowering then? Total height?

it varies hight wise acording to conditions, strain, stress etc.
i have 4 plants on the go all had the exact same conditions and there hight varies by about 10inches.
all plants were vere close in hight befour i went 12/12.
general rule would be to expect them to tripple, especially if your in a box or tent.
my talleset went from 10in to 30in in three weeks so it trippled

I like to grow mine to approx 24-36 inches(like my ladies big, LOL), just remember that they will usually double in size once you put them into flower, so grow them up to approx 3 feet since you have 7 to work with.

4 plants in big pots and some LST or scrog and you will get a nice yield. I have a 4x4x6.5 tent with a 600w and had 12 at one time in 1 gallon pots. Now I have 4 in 5 gallon pots. Height isn't a problem because I just tie em down if they get too tall. I usually harvest plants separately but if I ran all the same strain I can get a pound at a time.

if i was growing in a tent your size, assuming your growing clones, I would do nine plants in one and a half to two gallon pots. try for a sea of green canopy if possible. Keep them short no higher than three feet. I know you said your room is 7 feet tall, but with a 400hps you will only have a small portion of the plant canopy covered, the lower branches won't get enough light to produce the kind of buds you're looking for. So you want to focus the plant's energy on the part of the canopy that gets the most light. The way you do this is by removing the lower branches of the plant. You can squeeze your plants in closer together when you do this and you end up getting a higher quality easier to manicure and harvest alltogether yield. The method of removing lower branches is commonly reffered to as lollipopping. Google it for more info. It also helps with airflow and keeping your soil surface clean which in turn helps combat pests and diseases. Good luck man, its all a learning experience, I'm sure with a little practice and trial and error you will dial in that room in no time!

in that space I would put a 3x3 flood tray that can hold about 25 plants depending on what size pots you have.. Here is some shots of my room. I have a 4x8 a 4x4 and a 3x3 in a T shape with a monster hood at the end that may give you a few ideas maybe not :p

Sativas are the ones that will usually triple indica's usually double depending if you topped them or are using a bending technique. If you top them they will not stretch as much but again depends on strains.
