Hello I have a grow tent 4ft wide X 4ft deep X 6.5 Ft tall and want to know how many plants can I grow under my 1000 watt bulb MH/HPS. The five gallon pots I have measure 11 inches at the rim so I thought I could fit around 16 plants in my tent. 4 plants per row and 4 rows. Is this possible with my 1000 watt light to penetrate all throughout the leaves of all 16 plants?? Or should I scale it back to improve overall growth and quality to 12,10,8,etc?? Thanks CW.

you have a 4x4 tent and you want to put 16 5gallon pots in there?? Thats not going to work at all.....first off 5 gallon pots are pretty big so if you plan to use those then you need to grow them BIG with extra veg time or there is no reason to even use the 5 gallon pots.

I have a 4x4grow tent i use a 1000w aircooled hood.....I put 9 3gallon pots under my 1000w....by the time they are done flowering those 9 plants take up the entire 4x4 tent leaving no room........

Now if i wanted i could fit more pots in there but more plants dosent equal more yield.. I put 9 in there so by the time there done flowering i have room to push them apart but if i where to fit as many pots in there that i could id have no room to spread the plants apart from each other as they grow make sense?? Your best bet is to use eather 2 gallon pots or 3 gallon pots and if you use 2 gallon i would put 12 pots in there and if you use 3gallon id put 9 pots in there... Now if your dead set on 5 gallon pots then just put in 6 plants and veg them longer and make sure you have enough head clearnce for the strain you plan on growing......Veg those lady's like two months before flowering if you use the 5 gallon pots and probably should get a short stout strain becasue 6.5 feet tall you could have issues with the plant hitting the light if you use 5 gallons pots and veg for two months just keep all that stuff in mind when you deciede on what you will do

I agree w/ the above,9 should work nicely in the space you have. however, just because you use a larger pot, you don't have to veg any longer.more soil will give you more time between watering & provide a buffer in case of error.veg till the fill 1/2 your usable height, then switch to 12/12

Yes i would agree that the larger pots would allow him to water less but at the same time it would be a waste of space if he used them and didnt veg them longer....just dosent seem very effeicent

Hi footclan, thanks for your advice. As you can plainly see I am a newbie never grown before and this will be my first time at it. I admit I was way off about the number of plants. I think Im going with 6 plants in three gallon pots. Im still deciding on growing only with rockwool or growing in coco.any advice??? what do you use as your medium?? I also wanted to use my drip system. I will grow only indicas for my first time. Thanks CW

Hello mrmadcow I was mainly concearned about getting root bound. hoping the 5 gallon pot would allow plenty of root space for 3-4 months total growth time. Can I transplant my dispensary clones directly into my pots after I buy them, or do I have to grow them first for a few weeks??. thanks CW

If your only doing six plants Use 5 gallon pots, just throw you clones right in those pots. Then veg for about a month or so. If your new it might be a good idea to just stick to soil since it is a faily forgiving medium. Make sure you have a good air cooled hood....your gonna need it.

I have a 5 x 5 x 6.5ft tent with a 1000w in it as well and I am growing 6 plants in 5 gallon pots. Did 1 month veg and I'm 19 days into flowering now.

Like BC cannibas says soil or soiless mix is newbie friendly.....I do soiless mix sunshine #4 but theres other good ones too like Promix etc. Hes also right that if your only going to do 6 plants then 5gallon pots is probably better because with only 6 plants you are going to want them to be BIG to make of more less numbers of plants...... And veg as long as you can with out taking all your head clearance..Rember your plant will grow 2-3 times in size from the time you start 12/12 light cycle so leave from for them to grow........If you still want to do 3gallon pots i would do 9plants and veg them less more like 3-4 weeks

build a 3X3 or 4X4 bed !!! Thats what I did for my closet...layered it with hydrotron on bottom, then added a 4' pipe into each corner for ventilation...fill up with soil!!! makes watering easier and plants never get root bound!! I made one for like 40 bucks with nice heavy duty wheels on bottom so you can move them where you need to to check for bugs/mold etc. only downside I guess is you can not remove individual plants for whatever reason you need to...
