Soo.... you're telling me i'd need close to 1000 actual watts in cfls to grow 2 plants?
Why would you use nearly 1000 actual watts of CFL's when you could use that power so much more efficiently?

If I was running that many watts I would just go with HPS. I feel like CFL is really better for smaller grows. Just my half nickle.

I completly agree, 16x 27w = 432w, I know the cfl's will produce alot less heat but a 27w produces about 1800 lumens is a total of 28800 lumens, whereas a 400w hps would produces 50000 lumens. I would half the amount of cfls to veg and flower under hps.

I'd love to buy an hps, but they're just too pricey for me, maybe when i got more serious into growing.

Yeh I feel your pain man, I'm growing in a tiny pc case at the moment and I was looking to upgrade and wasnt sure if it would be better to get a 400w hps or go crazy with cfl. After lots of research I've decided to start saving for an hps, why dont you use less cfls for this grow and start saving up for an hps with the money you'l save on your electricity?

Im growing 3 plants just under 400w of cfl. All my plants are over 2ft and looking real healthy. My closet is about 2x3', I have mixed watts cfls some higher then others lowest watt being 26. I get roughly 30k lumens, the sun puts out 10k per square foot.....so im pretty much giving them what the sun would (obviously not as good but same lumens). the trick to cfls is getting them to surround the plant all over top to bottom, whereas hps you dont.

It all depends i have 12 plants all 2 to 2-1/2' under 20 cfls my area is 3'x5' check out my video in my signature which was day 28 of flower be updating a video later after feeding i think you will be amazed what cfls can do.
