How many watts of CFL do you really need?

There are 500 watt CFL's that take 105 watts of engery cost !!!!! A 250 watt takes 65 watts of engery cost
Exactly...105 watts and 65 watts....you figure CFL's by their "actual" wattage not by the equivalent....if you figure it by "equivalent" then I'm flowering under 800 watts !!

That's good to know. I have been planning a micro grow box and was wondering if 3 26w would cut it. I am planning 1 ft square, but 6 feet high to dissipate heat.

What size pots do you normally use?
2 gallon pots, they fit snugly into a 1.2 sqft grow chamber
3 26w can do good work in there, for a micro grow that is
lst will help in getting solid buds, some do scrog
i do see the a few posts here about getting 0.5g per watt/fixture
that's the best i've done, though a few grow logs claimed 1g, which would be amazing if true

I think you are all over simplifying the science behing lights and wattage. It is more about Lumens rather than wattage. Although they are related to a point, saying 100W CFL is same as 200W HPS eg is incorrect or saying 100W CFL uses 65W of power is also very wrong. Grow with just 100W cfl and YOU WILL NOT get a good yield, no matter the space. And yes you can get 125W CFL lights. I would strongly avoid going below 200W though or the yield will not make up for the time and energy invested into your grow.

no, it is possible to get a good yield with less than 100w of cfl's
not saying easy, but it can be done in good grow setup
the attached plant pic was grown out with 78w of cfl's
