How Much Do CFLs Effect The Electric Bill?

I only have 2 24watt CFLs right now but, I plan do get maybe 4 or 5 more... How much would you expect the 2 going for 24hrs a day would do to the bill? And how much would a total of 7 24watt CFLs add?



p.s. if this sounds a bit crazy im a bit too high...

an avg of $3.64 for 2 going 24hrs a day for 30 days
7 would be $12.75 on avg it might be higher or lower depending on where you are from but those are avg American prices

Wow... cool... I thought having 2 on for 24hrs would be an extra 237 dollars or some crazy number... all that stressing for nothing... Thanks for ya help...

with an increase of 237 bucks im sure you could use 3-4 1000 watters and be under or right around $237 bucks

It's a very simple calculation.

Add your total number of watts so say 7 X 24 watts = 168 watts
Multiply this number by the number of hours you will be using these lights So 168 watts X 24 hours = 4032 Watt Hours
Divide this number by 1000, because there are 1000 watts in 1 kilowatt hour. 4032 / 1000 = 4.032

This is the number of kilowatt hours you use in 1 day.

Multiply this by the # of days in a month, say 30
4.032 X 30 = 120.96 kilowatt hours / month

On your electric bill, go find the pricing per kilowatt hour. Mine is $ 0.105

So, 120.96 kilowatt hours X $0.105 = $ 12.7008 / month
(assuming a month = 30 days, 1 kWh costs $0.105, and lights are on 24/0)
