How much does root space affect yield?

What would be an ideal time to grow plants in 3 gallon pots. Is 5 to 6 months too long, would it kill yield or doesn't it matter that much, or would it just get root bound and slowly kill the plants, thanks.

the rule of thumb is a gallon for every 1ft of plant

So a 3 gallon pot realistically should be able to grow a 3-4ft plant this would take approximateley2-3 months.

But then if you switched it to flower 12/12 it would double or triple in size by the time she was finished.

I am a great believer in the fact that the more space your roots have the better.

A friend of mine uses 45 litre pots for plants that veg for around 6 weeks he transplants into them just before hitting 12/12 his finished height is around 3ft with approximately 18inch colas.

Hope this helped

Health and size of your root mass has a direct correlation to nutrient uptake and plant health and therefore yield. Anybody will tell you the roots are the most vital organ of your plant.

I just wanna know if they can run low on space during veg and not produce as much. And my plants are usually 2-3' tall. But produce much more than normal cause almost everyone only knows how to grow sticks indoor. 5-6" a day is a starving plant. But i still wonder about roots in flowering.

if you wore a size 12 shoe and all you had was a childs size 4 how good would you walk? same with roots, if roots are stunted the plant is stunted.

i use roots excel myself. pretty pricey but the root systems always end up spriraling out of control at the bottom not even week after transplanting. i got 3 feet in height and 3 feet in width in a 3 gallon pot. so its usually one gallon for 1foot of growth. i use aero pots to for the strongest roots. air is just as important as nute and water.

A 3-gallon pot is good for a plant you will be keeping 3 months. If you are going to have a plant longer
than that you need a bigger pot.
