How Much Heat Would This Create?

Just a couple questions regarding an air cooled 400w hps in a 2'x2'x5' grow tent. I will be running a 165 cfm fan attached to one end of the light hood, and since I only have one fan I plan on leaving the other end of the hood open so that the fan can also suck out the air of the entire tent. I'll have a passive intake, and the grow will be in the attic. I plan on starting in October (I live in Michigan) so it should not be overly hot up there.

Do you guys foresee any major heat issues?

Thanks in advance.

You will still need proper ventillation with a 400. Exhaust the old hot air into another room or outside(with ducting), or it will be too hot.

I also live in Michigan, and know that the avg. temp. in October is close to 60 degrees F. Considering the fact that the sun will be beating down all day long on your roof, the temp up there will probably be another 10-15 degrees higher than outside. Toss in the 400w hps which will raise it another 10-15 degrees, even if it is air cooled. The good thing is that your fan is way bigger than what is needed for the cubic feet of that tent, so that will help out a lot. All things considered, you are in the clear in my opinion. Even so, I would place ducting on your passive intake and run it to an area in your attic that gets some outside air. That way the air will be a little cooler when it comes in. Even if it's too cold, it's a lot easier to warm your grow area up than it is to cool it down.

Just my two cents.

ideally, you should have 2 fans
you know that
what you intend to do should get you through the winter until you can get up the money for better equipment

beyond that, i would put a filter on the intake side of that cool tube regardless for smell control and to keep dust/debris off your lamp

Why would he need 2 fans for that small of a tent? (other than an additional one just to move the air around the tent)

I run an almost identical set up. 400w HPS air cooled with a 180CFM Eco Plus fan. I have it in a closet venting to the attic, 72* F is where your ambient temp at intake HAS to be.

Come up with another plan.

i can for see light off temps reachin extremly cold levels during the winter months

The attic is the only possible place that I can grow. I'm not worried about the cold, heat is my only concern. I have many different options at my disposal which will keep it from getting too cold up there. The opposite is true when trying to keep the heat away.
