How much of a threat are males?

I have 3 plants, 6 days into flowering. 1 is definatly a female, 1 is definatly a male, and 1 is unknown as of now.

My question is, the male's flowers only were truly visible today. Yesterday I didn't know it was a male but the sack is there this morning. My concern obviously is pollination.

If at all possible I would like to use as much of the plants as possible, so I was wondering about saving the pollen in a jar for labeling and later use

The kicker is my plants are most definatly overlapping, and I'm SURE the female will come in contact with the male at some point throughout flowering.

I'm wondering, then, how soon is it possible for pollination? Should I cut the male at the base now to give more room for the female to grow (they are kind of cramped)? Or should I wait a bit and let the pollen sacks grow a bit and try to harvest them?

Its a slippery slope and I'm sure i'll end up killing the male to make room as its the best choice for my buds; which are the ultimate goal...But I'd like to score some pollen if at all possible!

With males your buds will be full of seeds, be less potent, and yield less bud.

You should get the males out as soon as you know they are males!! Maybe if you want to use the pollen, grow the male and 1 female in another room together where the male can pollinate the female. I am not sure about saving pollen, but you definitely don't want the male pollinating your entire crop which is very possible. Good luck!!

ok, be very very careful. trim all the male branches, leaving a few at the top to manage. watch them VERY closely. trim the pod just before it opens. let it dry then crush and the pollen will be inside. you have to let it ripen so this is a small window. the pod will open to reveal banana like pollen sacks. you can wait until the pod opens and still get them outta there in time but you pretty much have to check every hour or so. when the banana pops it's over. if the branches are removed this is actually easy to do. try to keep it as isolated as possible. maybe even outside? it will flower enough to harvest pollen.

do all work with males with the fans off. you can wet the male a little to keep stray pollen from becoming airborne if by chance it goes that far.

good luck. and i've found when try to seed it is often hard to get a good pollenation. i use a paint brush and apply heavily 3 times for a good seeded bud. pollen can and will pollenate a garden but it's not such a plague like problem. i've grown out males 20' away from my females outdoors with no problems. but still BE CAREFUL !!!

Landon, dude, I was reading your post, and didnt even realize it was you, I had to re-group for a sec (kinda stoned now). Listen get the males out of there. If you need seeds, there's a tutorial in my signature on collecting the pollen. After your done with the tutorial, take the male plant, and put it somewhere to save for later use, maybe a large brown bag or whatever. To this bag, add any clippings you cut off your females throughout your grow.
When you are all done with yr grow, we'll make some hash oil together!

I just kill the plant and put it in a bag , let it dry out ? I would love to make hash with all the leftover plants!! I would have to get the silk bags and such I would imagine... ohhh its going down, start saving your clippings video. Tagteam hashday will soon come!
