from my research, i see that during the vegetation stage it needs 400W and flowering 600W....if i select to use a 400 then how do i satisfy the flowering stage?

no you can use the 400 all the way through! i used a 400 in the begining and pulled 10oz off 5 plants, obvious the 600 will produce more and also you can have more plants under a 600, if you can get the 600 ballest that's dimmerble down to 400 then i would go for that with the coolshade, so worse case scenario is you leave it on the 400 setting if the 600 is to hot or to much, if you can get awy with the 600 with no heat or light bleaching then its all good! the 400 will cover an area of 3x3 no problem and the 600 can cover 4x4,

Hey fellahs, so I was thinking a lot about nutes and I don't know exactly what I should be looking at. I figured I would grab a bottle of bud candy or big bud, but I am not too sure what other types I may need to start out. Any sort of advice is appreciated. And thanks to EVERYONE for posting their replies, you are all giving me a huge hand and hopefully the advice will lead to a wicked journal for you guys to read. ;) hahaha.
But yea, do I need to buy a whole bunch of different nutes or will one or two types be good?

As for nutes...if you're on a budget, all you really need are the basics...a veg fert, a bloom fert, and a fert containing micro-nutes. Your veg fert will be one with high-nitrogen, something like 10-6-5, and your bloom fert will be something with high-phosphorus, like 3-10-4, for example. Some ferts contain micro-nutes, like iron, calcium, magnesium, sulphur, etc.... but many do not, so it's always wise to buy a fert that contains micros, specifically. Personally, I use Calmag Plus, which has all the magnesium and calcium you need, plus, takes care of the micros too. Good stuff, recommended highly. Also, don't fall victim to cool names like "Bud Candy", etc...because of you look at the NPK ratios, all they are is regular fert, nothing special, just a really weak dose that is given at the end if flowering, for 'supposed' boost. When, in reality, you could do the same exact thing with your regular bloom fert, by mixing it really weak. Seriously, that stuff for guys who like to waste their money. Just go for the main stuff, and you'll be good to go. :)

I use Dynagro, btw, and it works great. Very easy to use, cheap, but isn't organic, if that's a concern for ya.

Thanks a lot for the info. It really helps to know that. I figure I will just pick up the basic three for the veg, bloom and grow.
Anyone know anything about using that poly stuff I posted a link to last post? I am not sure whether to go with that or to spend the extra money on a grow tent or something, but 80 bucks for a 16'' by 16'' by 48'' grow tent seems really brutal. I don't feel like I could fit anything in it. xD If anyone has info on the poly or the grow tents, I would love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks again!
