How should i position my CFLs for this setup(pics)

How would i position my CFLs for this setup. i really want to get the most out of it. i am willin to buy one or two more so please give me some good suggestions on where to place them. thank you. P.S. my setup consist of my hydro garden on the right and my soil setup on the left.





Thats my germination setup on the top. i use a jiffy greenhouse with jiffy pods and rockwell cubes. with white widow and northern lights seeds from attitude seeds. Low ryder seeds.

Please give me some suggestions on where to place my CFLs. Money is tight for me. so every week or so i go and buy another lamp and another CFL 42 watt bulb that emits 2700 lumen. (42 real watts, not the candescent equivelent)

go to walmart and pick up a few CFL grow light tubes, there like ten bucks for a 2ft long light. get your lights as close as you can w/ harming the plant

soo wallmart has these CFLs that are tubes that are in the growing section or whatever. they r made for growing or are made for lightin. do you know what wattage they are, because i hear that cfls dont really emit that much good light for growing so you have to get the biiggest wattage you can get? do you know if that is true?

well I'm using them, along w/ some other cfls. but what im sayin is, the more light, the better.

im just getting prepared for my first grow, im looking at a 250w CFL they produce 19500 lumens, and u can pick one u quite cheap.

Where would i find it? and what kind of socket do i need. im not the best at wiring sockets. i just buy ones that can plug into the wall.

yeah, im the same, well if your like me and dont have loads to spend, have a look on ebay, all you need is a CFL cable, which is about £10 averagely and the bulb will set you back about £20-30, have a look, the price varies from the wattage of the bulb :) good luck with your grow buddy

I think you should do what your doing if you wanna stay cheap maybe add a more cfl's just in case but if you got money the best flourescent's are T5 bulbs thats what I have!!! They are called T5 HO(High Output) VitaLume Plus Grow and they are great!!! Check out my thread!! Even though I'm having a few problems I think I have a picture of the light if not if you ask I'll put it up or send you the link!! Send me a pm if you want!!! Also check craigslist for lights ((KINDA SKETCHY BUYING EM AT STORES IF YOU ASK ME))) I just feel weird

nobody else has any input on where to put my cfls. im thinking of surrounding my plants with thiem. not just having them from up top? what do u guys think?

Well this is my first post so you may want to have some one else answer but here goes.... In general you should try to position your cfl's around the plants, cfl's lack intensity and are most efficient when place within 2-6 inches of the plant. Also just a side note, it appears you have quite a few little one growing and if you plan on seeing most of these through to maturity then you will require much more light as a few 42 watt bulbs just wont cover it. also look into some socket y adapters to throw in you current fixtures, they are a cheap pickup at your local home depot. Also with the type of fixture you are using you may need some socket extenders also found at the depot.

here are some updated pics of the harvest of four of my soil plants. they were in 1.5 gallon pots in my closet. most of the time under cfls. the last three weeks of flowering they were under a 400 watt hps. something happened where i had to harvest. i would have grown them about one more week longer. but they turned out pretty good for my first ghrow and harvest. what do you guys think. i still have my hydro setup going though. i feel that they have about two more weeks to go.(according to trichomes. 30x microscope) all new pics. just took them

If you're tight on money, here are the two most practical things you want to spend it on.

1. Instead of buying the 42 watt bulbs, save up for a week and spend a little more for the 68 watt bulbs. They have them at the home depot and Lowes. I don't use Walmart but they probably have them there.

2. Take that tin foil down. It will create hot spots and only reflects about 50% of the light. Mylar is a reflective paper that reflects 95% of the light. You will want to spend the money on covering every square inch of your grow room with mylar. It can be expensive, but the gift wrapping paper with the shiny reflective backside is mylar. Buy a roll of that which should be about 3$.

that is mylar. the fan blows it and it never stays tight up against the wall. lol i spent 20 bucks on a roll of it at the grow shop

Well I still think you need more light an I personally do not like CFL tubes. You can only put them in so many positions. I would much rather use a inexpensive power strip an then use the polarized + Y-adapters to get a good concentration on the light.

Here is one I put together a few days ago. I wanted to put 2 single 2700k CFL's between the pairs of 6500k but the power strip socket spacing is to tight. Oh well I already had the strip so...

You could even take the cheap 3 socket extension cords an put 4 bulbs on it an hang them for side lighting. Hope that gives you some ideas that are possible to make some light setups.

From what I saw your soil grown plants are trying to reach for the light and are quite tall and slim. I would suggest moving the light closer but I'm not sure the wattage on your CFLS.
