how strong is the smell?

I was thinking of doing a small grow in my closet. the container would be some rubbermaid tubs.
i've read that the smell gets pretty potent, but i'd like to know HOW potent are we talking?

will it be unbearable for me in my room, and bother my roommates in my house as well?

or if the odor isnt THAT bad, what are some non-spray methods i can use to keep the odor from getting too dank.

^Are you telling me that you don't love that smell? God, I could sleep in my bloom room, just loving that aroma, if it were an option. *drools*lol :weed:

But yeah, it does get pretty strong. I had 20 plants in full bloom, last winter, no carbon filters, and I could smell the stuff 100' from my house, as i was getting outta my car.(that's when I decided to get it under control.lol) The smell eventually seeped though the walls, floors, etc...and saturated my entire house. Hell, I could smell it in my basement, and the plant were 2 floors above it. :bigjoint:Anyway,...yes, you're going to smell them, even if it's only one decent plant. The more you have, the worse it'll get.

I've heard that those 'ONA Gel' things(I think that's what they're called) work pretty well, for small grows. You might want to check 'em out, if filtering isn't an option.

hrmmm, the problem is, i haven't asked my landlord about it. and i wanted to grow discretely.

however, theres a good chance she'll be cool with it, and if not, prop 19 will probably pass and i'll just grow it outdoors.

Yes, the smell can really become very dominant so you may want to use filters or air purification system to help tone down the smell a bit. You can also opt to light scented candles to provide a whole new smell in the room.

You personally should not grow unless you like wearing orange.

The trick in being a successful grower is not letting anyone know you grow.

Trust me, if you never smelled a grow, you can't imagine it. My first grow was only 6 plants in the basement. No filters, no sealed room, no nothing. One day I came home, opened the door and was hit with the most intense and enjoyable smell I ever smelt...Then it hit me, OH SHIT it is the plants...
I now have a small sealed room with a carbon filter. No more stink even though I thought it was pleasant...that smell will bite you in the ass! Never underestimate it.

^LOL, No doubt, you get used to it, when you're around it alot. I live by myself, don't work, and was at home most of the time. I didn't actually realize how strong the odor was, while I was around around it 24/7, until I left the house for 1/2 a day, then came back. I almost shit when I came back home, walked in the door, took a good whiff, then realized that my house smelled like that all the time. I felt like I'd walked into a Cheech and Chong movie, in one of those scenes where they're tokin in a car, with all the windows rolled up.

how well does carbon work to eliminate the odor?

i was going to try one of those exhausts -> pvc -> carbon filter.
and as added protection, possibly a bucket with a fan and some ONA.

A small 4in fan/filter combo will do the trick. Try htgsupply.com. They're pretty cheap. You can also check the DIY section for instructions on building your own filter. Attached to a small computer fan from Radio Shack, it should work for 1-2 small plants.
