if there pure sativa or sativa dommonant then start 12/12 with total dark straight away if there indica or indica dominant then 5 weeks veg is needed

lol at green, one way to tell is take the size when you start flowering, lets say 1 foot..x2 or possibly x3, 2-3 ft. ROUGH estimate

i have 2 plants and 1 is about 5 in and the other is just under 4

im wondering when should i start doing the 12 of light and 12 of dark?
it is a question of what you going for dude. if you limited in head-space you can either put them on 12/12 now and face to end with less then an ounce if they happen to be female. other option would be to let them veg till they are matured and work LST and top them frequently till then. this also would largely lower the height they reach. if the get a little tall in flower you simply tie 'em down to a bow-shape;)

that you have to flower them right away if the sativa or sative dominant is nOOb-BS:twisted: you just have to know how to grow indoors and still and up with a sativa plant that is matured and still easy to handle in therms of size.

well, yes, in worth case the plant gone triple it size in flower, so most grow rooms still gone handle a 4ft plant without much trouble grown under a 400W HPS. also most plants grown are indica dominant mixes which will reach indoors about 3ft if grown with some skill and mind. and still can those plants be tied down if growing to tall in flower.

jesus guys, a plant will need about 8 to 12 weeks in veg to fully mature to peek performance, but as long it is in veg it can be topped to total madness, and all you cut off is going to be used to clone if you are smart. also clones are the best way to figure if a plant is worth the full effort if you not intending to grow seeds too, nothing cheaper to flower a clone quickly.

Topping is when you cut away the new growth which makes the plant grow 2 stems instead of the initial one. Peace

yeh im with green man, theres no set limit on when you are allowed to flower. If you have the space then let it mature, this will give you a better yeild. However you could induce flowering right now, with no problems. Its all about how much space you have, and how much time you have. I think its worth it to wait a couple weeks for veg, till the nodes start to alternate.

Goodluck buddy : )

so i dont need to do the 12 hour of light and 12 of dark if i just topp them
in general, YES;)

in detail, lets say you got about 5ft head-space in your grow from floor till celling, 1 ft goes for each HPS and pot, leaves you with 2ft to work with, so would have to flower them at the latest if the reach 1ft. to achieve this every method is fair, LST is low in stress for the plant as the name hints, but topping is more affective really. tying them down is rather a method which should be kept in arsenal till late flower to keep the buds from been burned;)

well most wont work wit only 5ft, rather 6' and more, so i guess you won't be in such tight restrictions as well, still i would recommend to grow them larger then a ft in veg since you have to consider light penetration and lost of power per ft distans to the bulb. that is why a peak plant is hardly bigger the 4ft indoor, rather 3ft and features rather then a single stem main bud several major buds in the the top branches which a plant grows if topped early on in veg.

thanks man, but what are nodes?
those are the places where a branch/fan leave grows from, basically. as soon those start to alternate in level so one side is higher then the other, the plant is matured enough to flower to full peak. other sign of total maturity is the appearance of preflowers before 12/12 is even introduced (has nothing to do with autoflowering!). but then it is really time to flower that one;)

my plants are only about 5 in tall there still babys
my best guess is that it should be old enough to be topped, i start topping mine usually within the second week of veg, so when the hardly taller then 3-4".

i make you an offer, make a pic and pm me if you posted it and and i gone give you my detailed opinion what i would do. what about that one?;)
