How to change the light schedule

I was running the lights during the wrong hours of the day and want to shift towards different hours (I want to run the lights over night to reduce heat). Anways, in order to move the light schedule over, I've been doing 20hours of light and 6 hours of darkness, slowly adjusting the lighting schedule by hours by 2 hours a day. Is this the way to do it? Or are there better ways? Thanks!

I just change it to how I want it even during flower. Been at this a lot of years and I've learned this isnt a major vector of plant stress
