hi all,
been away for some time but now i have decided to move away from cfl's and on to hps, im getting a kit in a couple of weeks (nothing special) but enough to do the job, it comes with a 600w hps, reflector and ballast, but it looks like it might get hot, and i am trying to avoid any dangers, the tent will be 120x120x200, but i am still worried about a fire hazard, woul i have to cool the hps? if so how? thanks for reading,
furious.

i forgot to mention it also has a carbon filter, and a intake fan
What you need is an exhaust sucking out air at the top of the tent, and the intake (passive or active) at the bottom. 600w is perfect for 120x120 (that's 4x4 for feet fetishists).

Make sure the fan matches the hood as an fyi. If that fan with the kit is 4" it might not work out as well.

Just a thought

The 600 is going to make heat, think of it as a little furnace. As has been pointed out, get a vented hood. I got a cool tube from Sears shipped, for 50$

Thanks for the replys, and thanks greenhouse feels like being welcomed home, i feel like a newb again going to a new set up, it does have a intake fan, the carbon filter is a 6" i have never used one before, how does the cool tube work? How do you assemble it? And i would get a fan vented reflector but it all comes as a kit, THIS IS THE DESCRIPTION OF THE KIT:
Tent Branded Black Orchid Light Tent. Measures 100cm wide by 100 cm deep by 200cm high. 95% reflective PVC free Mylar for guaranteed maximum light distribution. Metal poles that not only prevent sagging but are coated with white reflective heavy duty paint. Easy, push fit corners that minimises erection time. Heavy duty zips. Lighting Kit A simple and easy-to-use Dutch barn style reflector. It is an open-ended, highly polished and dimpled lightweight reflector, which gives an efficient and even distribution of light. Sodium HPS offers exceptionally high output. Couple this with raised spectral discharge in the reds and blues (exactly the right spectral energy distribution curves that your plants need to thrive). Spectral output changes in a HPS lamp as it ages. We recommend changing your lamp every 9-12 months for optimum growth conditions. Our quality range of ballast enclosures are made from heavy gauge steel and are powder coated to ensure a hard wearing finish. Thoroughly tested to ensure each product is in full working order and is electrically safe. Extractor Fan TT-100 Mixed Flow Fan. Up to 187 M3/h airflow rate. High performance mixed flow blade. 0.2 amp, 33w energy consumption. 35 dB(A) sound level and 3m distance from the fan. Carbon Filter BEF-100-150 Buddy Products premium carbon filter. 100mm 4" dia duct connection. Extra virgin activated carbon. Up to 200 m3/hour airflow rate. Buddy-Products 'Evenflo' carbon for optimum airflow and carbon usage. 150mm 6" long filtration area. Ducting Very flexible, hard-wearing, multi-ply aluminium foil. Puncture resistant. 100mm, 4" dia connections. Supplied in a 5m length. Manufactured to EU standard: EN13180 Rust resistant stainless steel duct clips (x3). Roll of aluminium foil duct tape. What do you think?
