How to cool room

how do I go about cooling a room that is 12x12x8? I'm thinking of using a 10x10 tent and I am able to put holes through the walls if I have to to pull in fresh air, cool air. Should I put a window ac in? I'm thinking of using 4 1000 watt lights. Thanks for any advice. I haven't set up the grow yet because I'm trying to get help!

If you have a 12 x 12 room why bother with a tent? What you'll need to cool lights will depend where you live and where it's set up. A basement grow in New England is goin to be different than a third floor grow in Florida. I think it's best to buy the biggest you can afford and have to upgrade down the line.
 
yea get a window ac or some sorts of ac . window ac way better then a portable unless you spend 500 or 600 on a portable . but for . 4 000 watts if they are air cooled I suggest a 10000 btu window unit in that room . if your getting a portable then you need 2 units .

Nope, sorry Bryan. Window rattlers will not work in colder climates in the winter. They exchange air until the intake air is colder then the set temp.

If your smart and spend that big dollar on a server room AC. They do not intake from another area or use a hose to intake from. They only exhaust hot air out a hose.
Regular 2 hose intake and exhaust portables, will work also. Just don't intake from outside!

You should have a filtered intake when using either one.

You can set up a temp controlled relay system, that works by turning on a circuit - connected to a small fan, that pulls filtered outside air in for cooling in the winter! That's how I run mine! Save's plenty over running a cpl of portables!
 
With 4k of lights, a 14k btu portable will NOT work. It struggles to keep my 3x600 at bay in summer. Your going to need a mini split, or commercial unit like mentioned above.

Your likely correct! I have central AC and supplement with Portables as needed 10K per area and all lighting on = 2 supporting portables......BUT, I could see 4K and a tripplite 12K being damn close...

Server units? SURE LOVE these fuckers! TRIPPLITE ! Bonus is that the exhaust tube = 6 inch's!

Minisplit = Mitsubishi is the gold standard! Keep the unit CLEAN or you will loose effectiveness. That will involve removing the covers on the compressor unit and blowing it out every spring. NOW comes the problem for most. The cooling cost is around 1.1K per ton so your looking at about $2,200 for a 24K unit - single output. Almost $1,300 for a 12K.

Damn, that 18k unit looks bad ass. Too bad I can't afford to lose any outlets to support a 220v for the 18k unit. Wonder how their 12k unit compares to my current 14k LG unit.
 
Whenever its not summer I cool my room the old fashioned way. Open a window. the electricity used to pump AC into an enclosed room with lights is ridiculous. I'm too cheap for the cost. Anyone who even uses the word minisplit is either made of money, or living a fantasy. In my area, you will not get a minisplit unit installed for less than $8,000.
 
I'm doing just that this time. Using cold fall/winter air vs my ac. I unplugged my ac.from my master controller, and plugged in my 6" 440cfm ho fan.

Do you use a hepa.filter on your intake outside air?
 
I dont personally, but I would suggest a filter. I have more battles with pwm than I would like. Even in the winter.
