how to harvest and rejuvenate the plant

I have a question? How do I harvest my plant without pulling it out? I want to try to rejuvenate it like I've read about but I'm not sure how. Do I cut the branches off or just the buds? How much growth do I leave on?
I've read about leaving leaves on the plant but I don't have many big ones. Any help will be so great because maybe just afew more weeks, Thanks.
