How to identify flowering stage?

Hello
My understanding is to look for the beginning of white hairs - pistils to indicate plant is starting to flower. Cause now I’m doing 18/6 lighting and want to know when to flip to 12 / 12 lighting.

Thanks in advance!!

You're talking about sexual maturity of the plant. Once you start to see pre-flowers like you are talking about the plants are sexual mature and you can flower at that point. This is only for plants from seeds, clones are already mature. For most growers the question about when to flower is more about height of the plant and their training style. Take into account that the plant will grow in height 2 to 3 times more once you induce flowering.

Me grow tent is 4x4 and a couple plants are 2 feet 4 inches and the other two strains are 1 foot 8 inches and the other just under that.

I’m thinking 7-10 days yet as the structures of the shorter ones aren’t super strong.

If you got a 6 foot tall tent depending on your light you have 4 feet to play with and you are already at 2 so without training and some S&M techniques you’ll be running out of head room

If I flip my lighting schedule now, the plants will still continue to strengthen I’m assuming,
Correct?

Flip the light immediately, I'm assuming your tent is about 7ft in height and you probably got a light that is hanging close to a foot off the ceiling. Your plants are gonna double (some strains even triple) in height during the stretch. What you think looks like a manageable garden right now quickly grow out of control during the stretch.

I've been doing this for a long time and may have different advice.

My plants go from vegging to the flowering room at around 24 inches tall. At 12/12 they will double in height. They grow for the first 3 weeks at 12/12 THEN they start to flower. The idea of a 12/12 light cycle is to tell the plant that days are getting shorter and it is time to start flowering. I would put them at 12/12 weeks before you do. Works for me.

Good luck, BigSteve.
