They'll be fine. I run my RDWC almost like a flood and drain 15 mins on / 15 mins off 24/7. Res change takes about half an hour and I use a wetvac to slurp it all out from the return in the res. I've let them go an hour or so to upgrade pipe fittings, no issues, roots all look great.

If it's your first run in hydro though, I'd suggest a top fed recirc system (feeder ring on each plant that drains out the bottom back to the res). They are much more tolerant to mistakes while learning. Having done both, I'd say you're prob only saving a week of veg time at most with RDWC and have a lot more issues to deal with (leaks, keeping the res cool, ph/ec issues, etc.).
