How would you heat/cool this room?

So my grow room is in the basement (Upstate NY) - and I am trying this run to use my Nest sensor thermostat as the heat/cool point for the house in that room. I'm wanting to see if it's more cost effective to use the furnace heat vs my stand alone gas filled space heater that I have in that room.
The issue is at night when it's the coolest down there, the rest of the house is getting warmer than we'd like. So night time grow room sits at 72, the first floor is 75, upstairs bedroom 72 (warm to sleep).
Mini split down there would be ideal but not possible due to budget of install.
Maybe just use the space heater at night?
I don't want to run the grow lights at night either.

With winter grows, the best option is to run the lights at night. But since you don't want to do that, I'd say running the herlater at night will be your option. Depending on your grow size, you may look at one of the real small heaters and put it directly in the tent. That way you are only keeping that space warm. It may take a little bit to get it dialed in where the basement and the upstairs are where you want them to be, but im pretty sure you can get it there with some fidgeting.

The room has 3 tents in it so it's 10x25' or so. I might try the space heater at night down there that I have. It works well - I just couldn't figure out what was more energy efficient - using the space heater or the house heat (gas)

If you are referring to the oil filled radiator type heater, it should work great for that size room. If your thermostat is down there with it, you should be able to get it dialed in to keep basement warm enough to keep the furnace from running as much. I'm not sure if you'll save a bunch of money doing it, but I would think that it wouldn't cost much more than just running the furnace all the time.

And it would probably help to keep the rest of the house cooler at night while we sleep.

It's got two windows in there - but I have covered the one in the insulating foam for the sides of houses, and the second is my exhaust, which also is insulated. It's a finished basement so it's all insulated, it's just the basement so it naturally runs cooler than the rest of the house.

I second the oil filled radiator electric heater. Perfect for your goals.

I grow in my basement in upstate ny too. I have a 2x8 veg cabinet I built, and 2 4x8 tents. Lights go out at 2am, so I have a little bit of carry over heat from the lights. I also have a small electric heater hooked to an inkbird in each of the tents set on a piece of ceramic tile. They do a great job keeping the temp swings in check, and they don't run constantly.

One of the tents exhaust is ducted in line with the cabinet. There is a fan close to the tent pulling air that is on 24/7. From there it hits a 6" T where it connects to the cabinet. There is another 6" fan past the T pulling air that is switched with the cabinet lights.

Veg lights on, both fans pulling air out to the lung room. Veg lights off, Veg fan shuts off and warm filtered exhaust from the heated bloom tent is pushed down the T heating the veg cabinet.
