If the leaves were dying , your probably overwatering.
In my experience with a plant that isn't growing fast in a pot that size, might need water every 5-8 days. With hardly any light, maybe up to two weeks.

I've been watering it every 4 days, the light is 150 hps. It's looking better though I'll upload a picture in a bit.

ya stop chopping leaves unless they are going yellow and getting crisp. All is looking perfect now. Don't change anything. A foot away is probably good. What are you growing in? Room, tent, box, bathroom, computer??? Temps?
It's in the garage, I'm using a grow tent with reflective material. The temps are around 76
