Hps 600w cooling

So I got a 600w hps for cheap and it' a standard ballast no dimming option.

My grow tent is a pretty small one but big enough for one plant.

My problem is my temps are really high I need some info on a cheap and stealthy way to keep the temps down.

I know I need more fans but can anyone suggest what I need?

Hps is being used with a wide reflecter not a cool tube.

Help would be appreciated thanks.

I have a 100m3/h extractor fan I was using with cfl obviously no good with hps.

Just want fan suggestions, low db, cheap or different cooling methods.

Is your grow space dementions in inches or centimeters? I ask because your fan info you gave in metric. Your extraction fan should replace the entire grow rooms air once every minute. So if your room is 150 cubic feet, your fan should be at least 150 cubic feet per minute. Hope this helps.

If you want quiet and cheap go with a bathroom or in home fan they will be quite
But might not have static pressure to use a carbon filter.

Does it need to be odor proofed?

It's in cm and at the moment I'm only growing one plant at a time so I guess the odour wouldn' be much of a problem depending on strain of course but by the time it starts going into full budding and stinking I can get a different fan.

you have a 600w in a 60 x 60cm tent?

Yeah I don't think that will ever work. You need a much bigger tent. The max I would use in a tent that small which is 4 times smaller than a 4"x4" tent is a 250 watt hps.

I know you just got this light for free which might seem like a bonus but it's an old used ballast which loses efficiency over time. These days people are paying a lot of money for cob led's just because the saving in electricity pays for the light itself so you get a free top notch light that will save you money year after year.

Your ballast by my guesstime will be using close to 700 watts of electricity (you can check this with a cheap watt meter) which in a year's usage can be as much as £400 in electricity. If you can invest £200 now and save £200 this year in electricity it will be worth it even if you might not see it that way being £200 down. 600 watts is way too much for a tent that small so half your power is going to waste and you'd have to raise your light higher than the 140cm you have.

a 250w hps will sort out all your heat problems. Your fan should then be enough. The other option is that you get a tent that is 4"x4" and a fan that is 4 times more powerful. Otherwise seriously bin your ballast and "give it away for free" like your "buddy" did saving himself a trip to the tip.

Your setup now just will not work, you have build yourself an oven and even if you blow enough air through it you are still basically growing in a far too breezy air cooled oven.

Oh no the ballast and bulb are all brand new from shop haha.. it was cheaper than a lower watt is what I meant sorry..

But yea even though it' brand new I still see your point and makes a lot of sense

I did have a feeling that my tent would be too small to use such light I just didn't use my brain and think it through..

Cheers for the help i think I will just sell up that light and put it towards a led light I think that would work better for me.

i think thats a good idea, i've run a 600 for a couple of years in a 4x4, and when its very hot outside, i have a hard time keeping it cool, i couldn't do it in an area half the size.

Yea well it's either a new bigger tent or new lighting system..

I don't really need a bigger tent although I guess I could grow another one or two plants but it's only for my use..

I will have a read and research a bit more but you lot have helped me massively so thank you

i'd highly suggest a good quantum board for the room you have available, dial it down during veg, open it up for flower, they use a lot less wattage per lumen, so you get great results at a lot lower wattage, which = less heat to get rid of, as well as a lower electric bill.

Quantum board.. like build my own led? I do like the sound of the lower electric bill makes sense to me haha.

i built a few, but honestly, that was an experiment to see if i could. they worked very well, but its not very much cheaper to build your own from the ground up than it is to buy from good people like HLG, and you don't have to go half blind making sure you have 2000 leds turned the right way before you solder them to the boards.

thats a plant i grew under a QB i built myself, that ran off of a router power supply and a buck converter. it did a great job, but it was a pain in the ass to build, and i didn't save just a ton of money buying my own parts. would have been even more if i didn't have a friend that milled my pcbs for me for free.

Ah okay I see yea I just had a browse around on some sites and I don' think that would be very good for me I'm in UK and a ot of the boards are from USA.. that plant looks good though I'd like to grow something like that
