HPS Bulbs, Does price/brand diff = perf diff?

You've all scrolled through the plethora of different bulbs and seen their various claims about performance. Who's tried what and how did it work out for you? Any recommendations?

I grow more than I need anyway most of the time so I just go with the cheap bulbs like sylvania. I guess if you're growing for profit or can barely grow enough already a hortilux might make sense but it's been over 10 years since I ran one and couldn't honestly say if there was a difference after all this time.

there are some good bulbs better or on par with hortilux. But id def use a better bulb, such as a hortilux, they emit more lumens, more lumens means more light, more light means more yield and health.

A friend of mine uses the son agro hps bulb and it has 30 watts of blue in it that give a little kick to the grow.

I've got a 400 watt system with a Hortilux and a 600 watt system with a cheaper Sunleaves Optilume(or something like that). I'm usually using one or the other but a while back I had both going in seperate rooms, and the 400 was getting at least the same or better results. It was also in a cheaper reflector and slightly larger space. Definitely don't go cheap on the bulb, my upgrade to 600 watts turned out to be a downgrade because of the cheaper bulb.
