6 weeks is not old at all.. some people use bulbs for YEARS... It is usually 3- 4 harvest that a succesful/serious grower will change out his bulbs..

changig bulbs regularly is more of "fine tuning" that pro$$ do than beginnners.. but many begginers turn PRO very quickly :)

By pro, I mean somebody who has "DIALED" there system to yield the fastest and biggest yields possible :)

if you have had experience with 400 before, you may be able to tell if there is a light drop off,but if you havent you have no referance so you have to go on his word, because there is no tall tale sighn of a lights age except by measureing its intensity.

dog, I read a lot of your posts and I can tell that you are not very good with English. Just helpin' you out, here's what your post should have been:

"Hi to you all! Does anyone know if you can tell when an HPS bulb is near the end of its life? I'm asking because I was given two 400w bulbs that are supposedly six weeks old. How can I tell if it's true??"

I like learning new languages, and I like to learn when I'm making mistakes. If you don't care then so be it! :joint:

HAHA that avatar is sweet! Yes I would definitely get a new bulb, they're not that expensive. When in doubt, shell it out.
