HPS bulps EXPLODE! ?????

i just got a brand new hps 400w kit and its great,but when i was gonna sleep i got scared and thought"What about fire"?? is this shit dangerous to use indoors,if im sure the bulp is clean? Thanks 4 reply my green growing friends..
 
Yeah bro, never mist your plants under HID lighting. I always turn mine off, let the plants cool for about 15 minutes, mist and wait until they're almost dry to turn the light back on.

Veg ones, I don't mist my flowering plants.

I mist my plants under HPS too, just don't do that with water with fertilizer. You shouldn't have a problem with bulbs exploding unless you threw water on it. Those things burn so hot small water drops are going to evaporate before it has a chance to get close. If you were to rapidly cool it however, sure it might bust, same with any hot glass.
 
Bulbs are designed to deliberately blow internally before excessive currents can cause further damage to the point of glass breakage. Usually a "Weakest Link" is designed in to melt first to open the circuit, much like an internal slo-blow fuse. As an additional safety feature, air-cooled hoods with protective glass are available that protects the hot bulb from moisture. It also allows you to place the light much closer to the canopy, when properly ventilated . You should have a fire detector nearby also to be Fire Marshal Bill safe!! .

i run 2x400w hps in my bedroom closet. You can get good results when used properly, i'd recommend an air cooled reflector. It helps a lot!! Any HID light in door creates way more heat than your plants can handle. Remember you want to keep your room about 75 degrees with the lights on. With my 2 air cooled reflectors, 2 inline fans, and a 10,000 btu A/C unit, my room still gets up to about 80, 85 in the summer.
 
Yea my room stays about 80-85. I run the A/C while the lights are off but unless it breaks the 85 barrier I don't bother while their on. I really don't see a few more degrees being a big deal with adequate ventilation, but it's more of a cooling issue for me. Once it gets around the 85 threshold the hoods become inefficient it slowly starts to climb higher.
 
Don't get liquid on a hot bulb, it can pop.. Scare the shit out of your and if you are looking at it, you will get all kinds of shit in your eyes.. You should have your lights on a circuit with it's own breaker as a minimum..
 
The main reason I don't mist under the light is to protect the plant, I mist with 1/4 str nutes and it's possible to burn your leaves.
 
HPS bulbs can even explode if you touch them from the oils on your finger. Spray alcohol on a paper towel, or pour it on a paper towel and clean your bulb thoroughly. You will be fine if you do that. Do not get it wet and do not touch it. (I was an electrician before being apart of this forum...)
