HPS Compatibility Question

This will probably sound nooby, since I'm still noob with HPS/MH lights

What kind of, "socket", would HPS fit into. Like, would it fit into where I screw in my room light bulbs, that sort of socket, or does it use something special, other than what incandescent and florescent uses. Thanks

EDIT: As I understand now, it would fit but heat would be too big a problem, requiring a ballast. New question: How do I pick out the right ballast for a certain HPS light?

ya man you need a balast. That thes expensive part when it comes to buying HPS lights, the bulbs only cost like 20$ but the ballasts go for like 80 and above. your going to need one with enough watts to acomodate your bulb.

You have to use the same size ballast as the bulb, eg.600watt ballast with a 600watt bulb.Hope this helps.Kiwi.

the 2 pictures you showed would be what you need to run the bulb properly. you would also need a mogul base, some 16/3 wire, a male plug adapter, some metal housing or something metal to mount the ballast to, and some wire nuts and/or electrical tape.

Also, if you want to go with smaller lamps i would recommend the 150 or the 250. the 200 watt you have shown isn't nearly as readily available in local/retail stores as its 150/250 counterparts. you may be stuck ordering online all the time, which can be a pain if a bulb or ballast fails unexpectedly.
