HPS for vegging..

I have a 150w HPS I would like to use for vegging. I know HPS is primarily used for flowering so im curious will it work ok for vegging?

I plan to put it on a 18/6 cycle and veg clones for 3 weeks or till my plants hit 15 inches or so. So if HPS is good for flowering but can be used for vegging what exactly triggers the flowering stage?
Thanks for all the help.

As I understand by ads and despription on bulb factsheets it depends on the HPS, some have quite a high "blue" % and should be more than good enough for vegging (not as good as MD I may add, if you have the possibillity add a 14W blue led panel). But I guess you will find better, and more precise advices if you search here for HPS, or simply go to the light forum and read stickys (sure you´ll find the info, even though I haven´t searched).

You´ll find a simple description of the various types of bulbs here: http://www.4hydroponics.com/lighting/lightingBulbs.asp, this as an example.....

The amount of light the plant recieves triggers flowering.... The more hours it receives, it stays in veg, the less hours it receives it will go into flower...:-)

He-He, made us look stupid there ;) But personally I was talking about efficiency in the different stages..... And yes, obvious, light cycle is the main thing, guess they would flower (poorly, but flowering) under blue spectrum as well....
