HPS's are FKIN HOT!!! resterday I just put in my first hps and damn!! this sucker is crazy. I thought that the light it was putting out at first was fair, but then it warmed up. even when I close my sliding glass closet doors, I need to cover them now with a blanket cause light is comming out from them!!!! LOL. Forget tryin to look at that mo-fker! you'll go blind.

Im making about 90-96degrees on the top of my box and about the same on the bottom. this is probably too hot right, what is the temp for plants to start dying and/or deteriorating. Im going to buy more fans tomorrow so hopefully that should help.

also, my box isnt that big, so what would be the closest my plants can get before it really hurts...They are already 1 1/2 feet and im not even flowering yet. Also, with the space I have, im not even able to attain 18inches of space right now its at about 15inches away from the canopy.:wall:

You wanna keep the heat about 78 which is optimol no more then like 85 or damge can start to occur. Distance depends on how many watts. I keep my 400 watt lights about 12 inches away a 600 would be about 16-18 and a 1000 watt light about 18-22 depends on if the reflector is sealed with glass and exhaust fans or open to. If its enclosed with exhaust fans on the hood you can get closer. You will need good air flow meaning fresh air being sucked from outside the room and then air from in the room being sucked out and blown out. You ll also want a oscalating fan at plant level to keep air from gettint stale or hot. Keep in mind when you flower your plant it will at least double in height from what it is the day you switch 12/12 so if your plants are foot and a half or 18 inches they will be at least 36 inches minimum
